    The Best Double Chocolate Cookies

These double chocolate chip cookies will satisfy the sweet tooth of any chocolate lover. I mean, how could they not?

These chocolate cookies are so soft and chewy, and they're loaded with the most decadent chocolate flavor. Plus, there are literally chocolate chips in every bite, and that's always a win in my book.

Also, the process of making them is beyond easy - even if you've never made cookies before, you'll find this recipe to be a breeze. Just 6 simple steps are all you need to follow to make them.

Oh, and since these cookies are so delicious and easy to make, they're a great dessert recipe to make if you're hosting guests or having a birthday celebration.

And if you serve these double chocolate chip cookies with these Funfetti cookies and M&M sugar cookies, you'll have the ultimate cookie platter with something for everyone. Seriously, not only will kids love the dessert table, but adults will be asking if you got the cookies catered!

Anyway, let's not waste any more time, and let's dive into the ingredients to make these double chocolate chip cookies.

    Ingredients

As I mentioned earlier, you don't need any fancy ingredients to make these double chocolate chip cookies. So, there's a good chance you have everything you need to make 'em in your kitchen already.

With that said, here's everything you'll need to make these one-of-a-kind cookies:

    • 7 tbsp. Unsalted Butter, softened
    • ½ cup Light Brown Sugar
    • ¼ cup Granulated Sugar
    • 1 Egg
    • 1 ⅓ cup All-Purpose Flour
    • ⅓ cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
    • ½ tsp. Baking Soda
    • A pinch of Salt
    • ½ cup Dark Chocolate Chips

And that's all it takes to make these delicious and chewy chocolate chip cookies.

Now, if you're looking for a less chocolatey cookie recipe, you can use most of these ingredients to make these white chocolate macadamia nut cookies!

    Diving Into The Ingredients

Of course, the base is the same as any other cookie dough, using butter, sugar, egg, and flour. But the trick is in the proportions and the addition of natural cocoa powder which highlights the chocolatey flavor. If you want the best flavor, make sure to use dutch process cocoa powder.

And to enhance the flavor of the cocoa powder, even more, you can add a little espresso powder too.

By the way, if you have a stand mixer, I recommend using it for this recipe. I find when I use my stand mixer the butter and sugar cream together perfectly. And it's less work because you don't have to stir.

Also, to add a personal touch to your double chocolate chip cookies, change up the chocolate chips you use each time! Instead of dark chocolate chips, try using milk chocolate chips, semi sweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, or even peanut butter chips! I love using peanut butter chips to make Reese's Cup-style cookies.

Anyway, now that we have our ingredients prepared, let's get baking!

How to Make Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

So, as I mentioned, this double chocolate chip cookise recipe takes about 20 minutes and will make about a dozen double chocolate chip cookies.

But, if you want to make more, you can easily double or triple this recipe!

By the way, if you want to see these cookies made, check out this video.

Now, if you have your utensils and ingredients ready to go, let's get to it and make some double chocolate cookies!

Step 1: Mixing The Butter and Sugar

First, preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Next, cream the softened unsalted butter and both the light brown sugar and granulated sugar in a medium bowl with a hand or stand mixer until soft and creamy.

    Step 2: Adding the Egg

Now, add the egg to the bowl, and using the hand or stand mixer, mix it with the creamed sugars until it just combines.

And make sure you mix until the egg just combines with the other ingredients.

Step 3: Adding the Dry Ingredients

Next, you're going to add the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt to the bowl.

Then, mix all of the ingredients together with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula until a cookie dough forms.

Step 4: Adding the Chocolate Chips

Now, add your dark or semi sweet chocolate chips (or whatever you decide to use) to the bowl of cookie dough. And, don't forget, you can also use chocolate chunks or pieces of a Hershey's candy bar in place of the chocolate chips as well.

Anyway, now you'll want to fold the chocolate chips into the cookie dough until they're fully incorporated with it. Then, once they are, it's time to move on to the next step.

    Step 5: Scooping The Dough

After the dough is combined, scoop about six 2-tablespoon-sized cookie dough balls and put them on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Also, just so you know, you'll only be able to fit about 6 cookie dough balls on one tray, so you will have to use two baking sheets and bake them in two batches.

And make sure to leave a little space between the cookie dough balls - they'll flatten out while they bake.

    Step 6: Baking The Cookies

Finally, put the cookie sheet in the oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes. If you like your cookies more underdone, only bake them for about 8 minutes.

Once the first batch is baked, bake the second batch immediately.

Let the baked cookies cool on a cookie rack. Then, serve warm, or let the cookie cool completely and enjoy!

How to Store Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

If you're serving these cookies to guests, there's a super small chance that there will be any left. But, if there is some leftover, these double chocolate chip cookies taste amazing leftover.

Just make sure the cookies have completely cooled down before storing and then put them in an airtight container, cookie jar, or resealable bag.

If you want, feel free to put parchment paper between each layer of baked cookie, in the airtight container, to keep them from sticking together.

The double chocolate chip cookies will keep best for about 4-5 days at room temperature.

Then, whenever you want to eat a cookie, either enjoy it at room temperature or heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds and enjoy it warm.

How to Store Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

If you want to make the cookie dough ahead of time and then bake the cookies fresh, you can make the dough and store it in the fridge!

To store the uncooked dough, either form dough balls and put them in an airtight container or keep the dough in a bowl and seal it with a lid or transfer it to an airtight container. The dough will stay good in the refrigerator for about 5 days.

Then, whenever you want some fresh cookies, just bake at 350°F for about 10-12 minutes.
