THE BEST HOMEMADE MCGRIDDLE
A good breakfast sandwich is a guaranteed way to set the tone for a successful day ahead. So why not make that breakfast sandwich the best it can possibly be?
Well, this McGriddle recipe elevates a McDonald's classic breakfast option, and it does it all from the comfort of your own home!
And just like the McDonald's Mcgriddle this recipe combines a juicy meaty sausage patty, with a soft and creamy omelette, crispy strips of bacon, and melty American cheese with maple syrup flavored pancakes.
Honesty, it might just be the most delicious thing you ever make for breakfast.
And if you've never tried this egg sandwich hack before, you're in for a flavor that will rock your world.
Plus, you can make 4 sandwiches in one go and have your breakfasts - or lunch - ready to go for the week!

INGREDIENTS
Another thing to love about this recipe is that it's made with simple ingredients and pantry staples. And, as I'm sure you know, that's always a plus in my book.
Anyway, here's what you'll need for the meat patties:
- 1lb. ground breakfast sausage (or 4 sausage patties)
- Salt and pepper
For the omelette:
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 4 tbsp. softened butter
- Salt and pepper
The pancakes:
- 1 ¼ cups flour
- ⅔ cup milk
- Just under 3 tbsp. melted butter
- 1 egg
- 1 ½ tsp. baking powder
- 2 tbsp. maple syrup
- ½ tsp. salt
And to finish it off:
- 6 slices of crispy bacon
- 4 slices American cheese
If you don't want to make the pancakes, you could also make our McDonald's biscuits for the breakfast sandwich!

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN MCGRIDDLE
Ok, so this recipe requires a little more cooking than usual, but the results are so worth it.
Once you're done cooking you'll have four McGriddle sandwiches that you can enjoy as a quick breakfast throughout the week, or share with your family.
So, with that said, let's cook up some homemade Mcgriddles!
STEP 1: THE MEAT PATTIES
First, we will prepare the sausage patties. And I used pork sausage, but you can also use turkey if you'd like.
Oh, and you can also use pre-formed sausage patties to make your McGriddle if you want to.
Anyway, if you're using ground pork - or turkey - you'll want to put into a bowl and gently massage it with your hands. Then, shape your meat into 4 patties - you want to make them on the bigger side because they will shrink a little when they cook.
Next, season each side with some salt and pepper and cook for around 3 minutes per side on a grill pan over medium heat.
Once they're cooked, set your sausage patties aside and start making the omelette.
STEP 2: HOW TO MAKE A FOLDED EGG FOR YOUR MCGRIDDLE
Is there anything better than a creamy and fluffy folded egg in a breakfast sandwich?!
I certainly don't think so.
Honestly, making folded eggs has become my absolute favorite way to prepare breakfast eggs, McGriddle or not.
Anyway, the first thing you'll want to do to make them is add the eggs into a medium-sized bowl and beat them with a whisk till the yolks and whites have combined.
Then, add the whole milk, and whisk again to incorporate it with the eggs.
Next, coat a large non-stick pan with butter and pour a quarter of the egg mixture into it. Let it cook over low heat for a few minutes, then sprinkle with sea salt.
Then flip, cook for a minute, gently fold the omelette into thirds, and then into a square towards the top of the omelet.
Transfer your omelet square to a plate, then repeat this process with the rest of the egg mixture until you have 4 folded eggs.
How easy is that?!
I bet you thought it would be a lot hard than that to make a folded egg. Am I right?
STEP 3: THE PANCAKES
For the pancakes, start by mixing the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
Then add in the egg, milk, butter, and maple syrup and mix everything until you get a smooth and thick pancake batter.
Next, place a non-stick pan over medium heat and coat it with butter.
If you want perfectly round pancakes, I recommend using round molds for cooking. Or you can just cook the pancakes right in the pan.
Now, if you're using round molds, coat the inside with butter, then put it on the pan and pour 2-3 tablespoons of batter into the mold.
Or, if you're not using a mold, you can pour the batter directly onto the pan.
Either way, cook the pancakes for a minute or two, then flip and cook for another minute - repeat this until you cook all 8 pancakes.
When the pancakes are cooking, either cook your bacon on a pan until it reaches your desired crispiness or cook it in the microwave if you are using the microwave kind.
STEP 4: ASSEMBLE
Ok, so now we should be all set to assemble these McGriddles!
While your pancakes are still hot, put one on a plate and place a slice of your American cheese on it - the heat from the pancake should be enough to make your cheese nice and melty.
Next, place your meat patty on the cheese, followed by a folded egg and some slices of crispy bacon.
Top it with a second pancake, and there you have it, four of the most delicious homemade breakfast sandwiches ever. Enjoy!
HOW TO STORE MCGRIDDLES
Again, the beauty of this recipe is that you can make 4 McGriddles at once. So you can easily prepare them over the weekend and have four grab-and-go breakfasts to enjoy throughout the week.
Or you can make enough for the whole family all at once!
That said, for the tastiest breakfast sandwich experience, the best way to store your McGriddle is to store each component separately in airtight containers - or plastic wrap.
Everything will last in the airtight containers - or the plastic wrap - for up to 4 days in the fridge.
REHEATING YOUR MCGRIDDLE
These sandwiches are super quick, easy, and convenient to reheat.
First, assemble your McGriddle how we discussed above.
Then for a quick reheating method, warm in the microwave for about 20-40 seconds or until it reaches your desired temperature.
You could also heat it in the oven at 350°F (180°C) for around 5-6 minutes or until warmed through.
Either way works great to recreate the freshly made taste.
WRAPPING IT ALL UP
Well, there you have it - one of the best breakfast recipes out there.
Seriously, this homemade McGriddle is insanely delicious, perfectly filling, and is a great make-ahead or eat on the spot option.
In our house, we meal prep like 12 of these at a time, and then just keep them in the freezer so that they're ready to go at a moment's notice.
And if you make these sandwiches with your family - like I like to do - odds are when they taste these homemade McDonalds Mcgriddles they'll never want to go to the restaurant for them again.
Yeah, this recipe is that good.
Well, I hope you enjoy this McGriddle recipe as much as I/we do.
As always, let me know in the comments if you tried it - I'd love to know how it turned out!
Oh, and if you loved this recipe, you'll most likely love this copycat McDonald's steak bagel breakfast sandwich and this Mcdonald's smoothie recipe too!

Casy Pearson
Hello! My 4 year old loves McGriddles. I bought a big bag of Tyson Sausage Pattie’s from Costco and I’m going to use a Mason Jar ring for the pancakes. I’m going to freeze them, how long do I heat them from frozen and how do you store them in the freezer?
Brendan Cunningham
Awesome!! About 1 minute, flip halfway through and microwave an additional few minutes until thawed. Wrap the sandwiches individually in tin foil or parchment paper and then put them in a freezer bag.
Latoya
Y’all really did a good job on this one.
Marc
Great recipe. I made them tonight and everyone loved them.
Side note - in your instructions you said ground beef. But I know you meant sausage.
Brendan Cunningham
So glad everyone enjoyed them 🙂 Yes ground sausage!
Kelly
What size griddle do you use for the omelette part of the recipe? Can you provide a link to it?
Brendan Cunningham
I liked this rock pan https://amzn.to/3rSyl7S
Calley
This was fantastic! I'm not big on fast food but McGriddles are my guilty pleasure. This recipe was delicious, pretty easy and I loved being able to make a batch and freeze them for mine or my sons easy breakfast. I didn't have a round mold so I used a larger mason jar lid (just the ring part) and dipped the bottom in batter, then put in on the griddle, and then poured the batter in the middle. Halfway through cooking tug the lid away and then you have a darn near perfect little mini pancake with the correct thickness. You can also freeze a sheet of maple syrup (or use crumbled maple candle) and sprinkle it within the batter too for the little syrup flecks.
Brendan Cunningham
That's amazing! We're so happy you like the recipe:)
Lisa W
That’s ingenious! I looked for mini maple chips online but… no such thing, I guess. Thanks!
Tina Merrow
Making the chips is super easy. Just boil Grade A dark maple syrup to a hard candy crack, cool it on parchment paper or silpat, then crack into small pieces. Put 2/3 of your Pancake batter in round, sprinkle on maple chips and top with last 1/3 batter. Perfect Mcgriddle Pancake! This recipe is awesome! Love the sandwich, but not comparable to the Mcgriddle without the maple pieces!! As a breakfast sandwich though... absolutely delicious!
Joseph Duff
Thanks Tina!! Love the idea of the chips 🙂
Teresa Pallas
What type/kind of American cheese works best? The one I bought for a faux McMuffin tastes so nasty.
Brendan Cunningham
Kraft is usually a good one but cheddar cheese also works great!!
Elizabeth
Hello,
I just wanted to make sure I was reading it correctly - you flip the eggs once before you start folding it, correct?
Thank you!
Brendan Cunningham
Hi! Yes just a flip to cook the other side a little
Mikayla
It turned out great
