    The Best Cookie Monster Cookies

Release your inner Cookie Monster with these ultra-popular blue Cookie Monster cookies! The icy blue color is so visually appealing, and the cookies are packed with deliciousness.

These blue monster cookies are super soft and chewy, loaded with chocolate chips and crushed Oreos, and they even have a mini Oreo inside for a mid-cookie-bite surprise!

They're incredible as is, but these blue monster cookies are so versatile! You can make so many modifications to them that it's like you're making different cookies each time, but we'll get into that later.

Now, it goes without saying, but kids absolutely love these cookies. I made them and brought them over to my niece's house, and all of her friends went crazy over them! And the parents loved them too since they're so tasty.

Also, since kids love 'em so much, these blue monster cookies are a must-make for any Sesame Street themed birthday party. My daughter just turned 2 - and Sesame Street was the theme - and everyone went wild for these cookies at her birthday party.

By the way, if you're looking to make the ultimate dessert table spread, here are some of my dessert table favorites: mini no bake cheesecake bites, salted caramel fudge, and Funfetti cookie recipe made with cake mix.

Anyway, now let's not waste any more time, and let's into the ingredients you'll need to make these Cookie Monster cookies!

    Ingredients

The best part about this recipe is it uses pretty much all pantry staples. So, honestly, there's a good chance you have all of these at home already.

Anyway, here's what you'll need to make Cookie Monster cookies:

    • ⅔ cup Butter
    • ½ cup Sugar
    • ½ cup Brown Sugar
    • 1 Egg
    • 1 tbsp. Pure Vanilla Extract
    • 1 tsp. Blue Food Coloring
    • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
    • ½ tsp. Salt
    • ½ tsp. Baking Soda
    • ½ cup Chocolate Chips
    • ½ cup Oreo Cookies, crushed
    • 8-10 Mini Oreos

    Pretty common stuff, right?!

Also, don't be afraid to stock up on them because you can use almost every single one to make this edible cookie dough next and these white chocolate macadamia nut cookies!

    Ingredient Additions and Substitutions

Ok, as I mentioned earlier, these Cookie Monster cookies are so versatile that you really can add in so many delicious elements to 'em.

Now, of course, I decided to make my cookies using semi sweet chocolate chips and Oreos, but you can get as creative as you want!

One of my favorite things to do is add mini chocolate chips and crushed-up Chips Ahoy cookies for the ultimate Cookie Monster cookies experience.

Another thing you can do is add half white chocolate chips and half semi sweet chocolate chips to add to the flavor and appearance.

If you love peanut butter, you can put a mini Reese's Cup in the middle of the cookies instead of the mini Oreo. Seriously, every time we've made them that way people go even crazier for 'em.

Honestly, you can even just use a ton of M&M's as your add-ins - sort of like Mrs. Fields' famous cookies - instead of chocolate chips and Oreos and end up with some absolutely delicious results as well.

As you can see, there are so many ways to change up these cookies, and there are no wrong answers, so get creative, and go crazy!

By the way, if you want to see me make a different variation of these monster cookies, check out this video.

Now, if you have your ingredient game plan ready, let's get baking!

An overhead view of the ingredients it takes to make homemade cookie monster cookies.

How to Make Cookie monster cookies

So, now it's time to make the best Cookie Monster cookies!

Also, just keep in mind this recipe for monster cookies will make about 8-10 cookies, so if you want more for a party, just double or triple the measurements.

Anyway, now, let's not waste another second and get baking!

A mixing bowl with creamed sugars and butter in it. Egg has been added and an electric beater hangs over the bowl ready to mix.

Step 1: Cream Butter and Sugar

First, you're going to preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Next, in a large bowl, cream the softened butter with light brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth and creamy.

Step 2: Add The Wet Ingredients

Once the butter and sugars are creamed, add the egg, vanilla extract, and blue food coloring to the bowl with the butter mixture. Now, depending on the brand of blue food coloring that you use, you may need more or less of it - you really can use as much as you want, the more blue food coloring, the darker blue the cookies.

Anyway, next you'll want to mix all of the ingredients until they are just combined.

Step 3: Add The Dry Ingredients

Next, add the flour, baking soda, and salt to a small mixing bowl and give them a whisk to combine.

Then, add the dry ingredient mixture to the bowl of wet ingredients, mix with a rubber spatula until combined, and a cookie dough forms.

After that, fold in the chocolate chips and chopped Oreos.

Step 4: Making The Cookie Dough Balls

Now, scoop about 8-10 cookie dough balls, about two tablespoons in size each, and place them onto your prepared baking sheet.

Then, press a mini Oreo in the center of each cookie dough ball and cover it with a little more cookie dough. Finally, reform the cookie dough into a ball.

A baking sheet lined with parchment paper has cookie dough on it, mini oreos have been pressed into each scoop.

    Step 5: Baking The Cookies

Now, bake the monster cookies for about 10-12 minutes, depending on how you like your cookies. Oh, and if you can't fit all of the dough on one try, you may have to bake the cookies in two batches, so just keep that in mind.

Anyway, once the cookies are baked, let them cool for a few minutes on the tray, and then transfer them to a wire rack.

Finally, serve the cookies warm, and enjoy!

How to Store Cookie Monster Cookie

If you bring these cookies to a birthday party - or any gathering - there's a very small chance that you'll have any left. But, if you do, or if you want to make a giant batch, these cookies are delicious in the following day/s after you make them.

With that said, these Cookie Monster cookies are best stored in an airtight container. And, if you store them at room temperature, they will last 2-3 weeks.

But, if you want to keep them for longer, you can freeze the cookies for about 8 months.

How to Reheat Cookie Monster Cookies

If you're craving that fresh-out-of-the-oven taste, you can reheat your cookie monster cookies in the microwave.

Just microwave them for about 8-12 seconds and enjoy! If you're warming up frozen cookies, add about 5-10 more seconds.
