The Best Edible Sugar Cookie Dough

Eating cookie dough is one of my favorite things to do.

But, as we all know by now, eating raw flour and eggs isn't good for you. That's why I've come up with this delicious edible sugar cookie dough that tastes as good, if not better, than any other cookie dough recipe out there!

And making edible sugar cookie dough is easier than you think. In fact, just 3 simple steps are all you need to follow to make it.

By the way, this edible cookie dough recipe is safe to eat because it uses heat-treated flour, which kills off the bacteria in flour that could give you an upset stomach. We'll also be omitting eggs from this recipe, guaranteeing that you - and your kids - will be able to safely enjoy this cookie dough recipe anytime you want to!

I mean, I know first hand it's hard to convince little kids that they can't eat raw cookie dough, it's half the fun of baking cookies in the first place! And that's exactly why I decided to come up with this delicious edible cookie dough recipe.

Also, for what it's worth, there's an endless number of favorite mix-ins that you can incorporate into your edible sugar cookie dough. I'll be sure to give plenty of examples down below!

And speaking of sugar cookies, if you want to bake some cookies, you have to give this M&M sugar cookie recipe and funfetti cookie recipe a try sometime!

    Ingredients

So, as I mentioned earlier, this recipe is quite simple, and it will result in enough deliciousness for the entire family to enjoy.

And you may not know it yet, but you probably have all of the ingredients you need to make this edible sugar cookie dough.

Check out everything you'll need to make this recipe:

    • 7 tbsps (68g) All purpose Flour
    • 2 tbsp. Unsalted Butter, melted
    • 1 tbsp. Brown Sugar
    • 1 tbsp. Granulated Sugar
    • Pinch of Salt
    • 2 tbsp. Milk
    • 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
    • 2 tbsp. Rainbow Sprinkles
    • White chocolate chips (optional)

See? It's basically everything you would need to make a normal sugar cookie recipe, just without raw eggs.

And if you're ever craving chocolate chip cookies and don't want to use raw eggs, give this eggless chocolate chip cookie recipe a try!

Oh, and you can use almost all of these ingredients to make these no bake cookie dough bites. It's another one of my favorite edible cookie dough recipes.

You have a large bowl with flour, rainbow sprinkles, vanilla, sugar, salt, brown sugar, melted butter, and milk.

    Heat Treating Flour

So, of course, to make this cookie dough safe to eat, you will want to use heat-treated flour. Raw flour is not safe to eat, so the most important thing is that you get the flour temperature to 165°F. This sugar cookie dough recipe uses the microwave to do that.

However, it's really not challenging to heat treat flour in the oven. Just preheat the oven to 350°F, spread flour into a light layer on a baking sheet, then cook it for 5 minutes. Just make sure the flour is completely cooled before you use it.

How To Make Edible Sugar Cookie Dough Recipe

I know this may be obvious, but the best part about this edible sugar cookie dough is you don't have to bake it! So, in just a few minutes, you'll have your cookie dough ready to be eaten raw.

By the way, if you want to see another version of this no bake sugar cookie dough, check out this video.

Anyway, now lets get into the good stuff.

Step 1: Heat Treat The Flour

First, you'll want to start by heat treating the flour.

To do this, put the all-purpose flour in a microwave-safe medium bowl and microwave in 30 seconds intervals 4 times, stirring between each one. Then, set it aside and let the flour cool when you measure out the rest of the ingredients.

And remember, you want the flour to be 165°F to make sure it's completely heat treated.

Step 2: Make The Cookie Dough

Once the heated flour has completely cooled, add the melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, milk, and vanilla extract to the bowl of cooled flour.

Now mix all of the ingredients together until they combine and a cookie dough consistency forms.

Then, add the rainbow sprinkles to the bowl and gently fold them into the dough.

    Step 3: Serving

Now that you have cookie dough, you can serve it in one of two ways. Either transfer it to individual bowls and eat it with a spoon, or you can make about 6 tablespoon-sized dough balls and put them on a baking sheet to serve and eat sugar cookie dough like that.

Both taste delicious no matter how you serve them, so enjoy!

How To Store Edible Sugar Cookie Dough

If you're sharing this edible cookie dough with your family, there probably won't be any leftovers since it makes just enough for everyone to enjoy.

But, if you're just making it to treat yourself - or a lucky someone - you'll probably have some leftovers.

If you do, you can store the leftover cookie dough in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

How To Freeze Edible Cookie Dough

Alternatively, if you want to store this edible cookie dough for longer you can freeze it as well.

So, if you're planning on freezing your edible cookie dough, I recommend forming the cookie dough balls and placing them on a baking sheet - or plate - to freeze before putting them in your airtight container. This will help guarantee they stay in their individual shape.

Also, if you store the cookie dough as I described above it will stay good in the freezer for up to 3 months. That means you can make a double batch and pull some out any time you get a craving for it!

    Wrapping It Up

Well that is how to make edible sugar cookie dough.

Honestly, this recipe is one of the best easy no bake dessert recipes on the internet. Not to mention, it's the perfect treat for the summertime since you don't even have to turn on your oven to make it!

And the best part is that the kids can easily help you make it too and everyone can enjoy eating raw cookie dough without worrying about an upset stomach.
