The Best Instant Pot Boiled Peanuts

Boiled peanuts are such an underrated salty snack that can be enjoyed during a variety of things.

You can eat them while watching a game, movie, or just when you need something satisfying to pick at. And there's just something about shelled peanuts that taste 100 times better than regular salted peanuts - at least I think so.

Also, this protein-rich, vegan snack is easy to make, budget-friendly, and most importantly, super tasty.

Now, as I'm sure most of you know - it can take hours to make shelled peanuts on the stove. But with this Instant Pot boiled peanuts recipe you can have it ready in a fraction of the time!

Honestly, it takes just 50 minutes to have these deliciously salty and tender boiled peanuts ready. And you don't have to do anything! Just add the ingredients to the pressure cooker, and let the cooker do its thing.

Towards the end of boiling, you can whip up this Air Fryer Popcorn to go with the peanuts!

A tin cup lined with parchment paper with shelled peanuts in it. To the right of the cup is a few peanut shells in behind it is a glass of beer.

    Ingredients

Another thing I love about making Instant Pot boiled peanuts is that they require just a few ingredients.

Here's everything you need to prepare this delicious snack:

    • Just over 3 ¼ Cups Dry Peanuts, with shell
    • A pinch of salt
    • 4 cups water

If you want to add a little heat and extra flavor to your peanuts, here are some optional ingredients for spicy peanuts:

    • Cajun seasoning
    • Crushed red pepper, and
    • 1 tsp Liquid smoke

Now, just so you know, boiled peanuts are best when using green peanuts for the recipe. These are freshly picked peanuts that have not been dried out yet.

However, if you don't have access to those, you can just buy a bag of raw shelled unsalted peanuts from your local grocery store, and they'll still turn out delicious.

How to boil Pot peanuts in an Instant Pot

As I mentioned earlier, making Instant Pot boiled peanuts is a breeze.

All of the time it takes to cook them is passive cooking time. There's really no prep to this recipe, or even hands-on cooking. The Instant Pot literally does everything!

So, if you're ready to make them, get all your ingredients, and let's begin!

    Step 1: PREPARING THE PEANUTS

Ok, first, you will need to wash the peanuts to clean them off. So, rinse the peanuts under warm running water about 2-3 times until they look clean, then pat them dry with a towel or paper towels.

Then, place the shelled peanuts in the Instant Pot, and pour in the water to cover them.

Next, sprinkle as much salt as you want over the peanuts. And if you want to make the spicy version, you can add in all of the ingredients to the Instant Pot at this point as well.

    Step 2: BOILING THE PEANUTS

So, now that everything is in the Instant Pot, place the grid attachment - or anything heavy that keeps the peanuts from floating - on top.

Then, close the lid, and set the Instant Pot to cook at low pressure for 50 minutes. By the way, if you want them to be really soft, you can cook them for up to 80 minutes. And if you're using green peanuts, 40 minutes should be enough for them to cook properly.

Anyway, once the time is up, release the steam and take the lid off when it is safe to do so.

And then drain the water, let the peanuts cool, and make this Pink Whitney Drink to have alongside them. Enjoy!

What To Pair With These Instant Pot Boiled Peanuts

So, traditionally, boiled peanuts are paired with a beer - that is of course if you're eating them at a sporting event.

And if you're eating them at the movies, they go great with a soft drink and popcorn.

But, since you'll be eating these Instant Pot boiled peanuts at home, you can eat them alongside anything you want!

If you're looking for something to pair these peanuts with, here are some of our favorites:

    • Fried Dough
    • Keto Funnel Cakes
    • Instant Pot Popcorn
    • Vegan Candy
    • Keto French Fries

From game-days, to get-togethers with friends, or lazy nights by the TV, boiled peanuts make a great addition to any snack spread!

    How to Store Boiled Peanuts

Alright, so this boiled peanuts recipe makes about 6, ½ cup servings. And if you have any that you don't eat, they are delicious leftover!

You can store the peanuts in an airtight container or resealable bag at room temperature for 24 hours or in the fridge for up to 10 days.

And if you want to keep the boiled peanuts fresh for longer, you can put them in freezer-safe plastic bags or airtight containers and store them in the freezer. They will retain their flavor and texture for about 6 months!

Then, when you're in the mood for some boiled peanuts, you can either thaw them in the refrigerator or at room temperature overnight. You can also microwave them for a few minutes - or place them in hot water for 5-10 minutes - and warm them up that way.

    Wrapping It All Up

This recipe is by far the best way to make this satisfyingly salty and crunchy snack.

These Instant Pot Boiled peanuts are a delicious, nutritious, and filling snack that is simple and easy to prepare. And unlike other homemade snacks, boiled peanuts can stray fresh for days or months if stored properly, so you won't have to worry about making too many of them.

Anyway, I hope you like this easy boiled peanuts recipe as much as we do.
