And you can use the majority of these to make my double chocolate chip cookies, so you'll definitely want to check those out next.
Chocolate Chips To Use
Now, it's probably no surprise, but the secret ingredient to making these chocolate chip cookies better than the rest is using rich and creamy Ghirardelli chocolate chips. The chocolate is so high quality, and it melts perfectly in the cookies - so accept no substitutes!
I used milk chocolate chips to make these cookies, but feel free to use any kind that you want!
Ghirardelli has all different kinds of chocolate chips. If you love that classic taste, opt for the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Or, if you prefer a sweeter taste, use the milk chocolate chips. If you want a rich chocolatey flavor, use Ghirardelli's dark chocolate chips to make an indulgent dark chocolate chip cookie.
Also, don't be afraid to be adventurous with the type of chocolate chips you use. Ghirardelli also has caramel and white chocolate chips. And you can even break up some of their flavored chocolate bars, like the chocolate raspberry flavor, to create deluxe chocolate chip cookies.
I love changing up the chocolate chips that I use every time I make this recipe to achieve a little different flavor.
Having said that, once you have your ingredients ready, let's get baking!
How to Make Ghirardelli Chocolate Chip Cookies
The time has come, get out all of the ingredients and let's start making these delicious chocolate chip cookies!
It always helps the process go smoother if you have all of your ingredients pre-measured, so you might want to do that.
Now, let's get baking these delectable chocolate chip cookies!
Step 1: Cream the Butter
First, preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Next, in a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed. You'll want to mix until the ingredients are light and creamy.
Step 2: Add The Wet Ingredients
Next, you'll want to add the vanilla extract, whole egg, and egg yolk to the creamed mixture.
Then, lightly mix everything together until the ingredients just combine.
Step 3: Add The Dry Ingredients
Next, in a medium bowl, you're going to combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Then, add the dry ingredient mixture to the bowl of wet ingredients and mix the two together with a rubber spatula until a cookie dough forms. Be careful not to over-mix the dough, you want to mix just until the cookie dough forms.
Once you have a dough, add the chocolate chips and fold them in.
Step 4: Bake the Cookies
Now you're going to divide the dough into about 12 balls and arrange them on the prepared cookie sheet. Just make sure to give them some space because they will spread out.
Also, just so you know, you might have to bake the cookies in batches depending on the size of your baking sheet.
Anyway, once the cookies are set, you can bake them for 8-12 minutes or until the cookies are your desired doneness. I like my cookies to be slightly golden on the edges.
Once they're done, let the cookies cool for a minute, then enjoy warm with a glass of milk!
How to Store Chocolate Chip Cookies
As you know, this recipe for chocolate chip cookies will make about 12 average-sized cookies. And, odds are if anyone is home while they're baking in the oven, you probably won't have many left!
But, if you do, these cookies are delicious for the next couple of weeks. You can store the cookies in an airtight container on the counter for about 2 weeks and they'll stay perfect.
Also, if you want to keep them for longer, either store the cookies in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag for about 8 months!
How to Reheat Chocolate Chip Cookies
So, if you find you're craving that "fresh out of the oven" warmth in your Ghirardelli chocolate chip cookie, you can heat it up in the microwave. I like to put mine in the microwave for just about 5-10 seconds, and it turns out extra ooey-gooey.
With that said, if you're reheating a frozen cookie, you can either let it thaw at room temperature or just heat it in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds.
