The Best Dunkaroo Dip
So anyone who was snacking in the 90s knows this sweet treat all too well.
I know for myself Dunkaroos were one of my favorite childhood snacks, and this cake batter dip recipe is as close as it gets to the real thing.
Now, typically, if you buy Dunkaroos, you get sweet crackers shaped as a kangaroo with the dip. So, if you're looking for a crunchy tasty cracker to pair with this homemade dunkaroo dip try using some Teddy Grahams, graham crackers, cookies, animal crackers, or even pretzels.
Honestly, you can even eat this cake batter dip with a spoon - it's that good!
Oh, and this funfetti dip is one of those delicious recipes that seems like it'd be way harder to make than it actually is. Seriously, all you have to do is mix the ingredients together and then just let the dip chill for a little. It's about as easy to make as these chocolate cake mix cookies, so you'll definitely want to give those a try next!
Anyway, now let's get into the ingredients and see what's used to bring this dip to life.
Ingredients
Ok, so like I said, this dunkaroo dip recipe is super simple to make and it only takes a few minutes to put together.
Oh, and the best part is you only need 4 ingredients to make it!
Here's everything you'll need:
- 1 (15.25oz) Box Funfetti Cake Mix
- 1 ⅓ cup (326g) Vanilla Yogurt
- 2 cups Cool Whip
- Rainbow Sprinkles
See? Super simple!
Now, if for whatever reason you can't find funfetti cake mix, you can use any white or yellow cake mix! Both of those cake mixes work great for the dip - they're just not as "fun".
By the way, you can also use funfetti cake mix to make these easy funfetti cookies, so you'll want to pick up another box or two if you have to run to the store!
How to Make Dunkaroo Dip
This dunkaroo dip recipe will make one large bowl full of dip, so it'll be plenty for a group of people!
By the way, check out this video if you want to see exactly how this recipe is made.
Anyway, now there are only a few minutes standing in the way of you and your homemade dunkaroo dip, so let's get going!
Step 1: Heat Treat The Cake Mix
First, you'll want to make sure that you heat treat the cake mix. Cake mix contains raw flour, and raw flour has bacteria in it, which is not safe to ingest.
So to heat treat the cake mix, add all of it to a microwave-safe bowl and heat it in about three or four 30-second increments, stirring between each one. Or, you can also heat treat it in the oven.
Either way, you'll want the cake mix to reach a temperature of 160ºF.
Step 2: Mix the Ingredients
Now, let the cake mix cool for a few minutes, and then add it to a large bowl with the cool whip and vanilla yogurt. Mix these ingredients together until they fully combine. Once combined, add the rainbow sprinkles to the bowl and gently fold them in to combine.
Step 3: Chill and Serve
So, now that you have a mixed dip, you'll want to refrigerate it for about an hour, or until it thickens. With that said, you can serve the dip immediately after you make it, but it will have a kind of runny texture.
Anyway, once the dip has the right texture you can serve it with your favorite dunkers, and enjoy!
How to Store Dunkaroo Dip
So, as I mentioned, this recipe will make a large bowl of dip. And there probably won't be any left if you end up serving it at a party, but if you do have some leftovers, it stores super well.
To store, transfer the dip to an airtight container and it will last in the fridge for about a week.
Then, whenever you want some, just take it out of the fridge, grab your dunkers, and enjoy!
