    The Best Cajun Fried Rice

This cajun fried rice recipe is so quick and easy to make and it’s bound to be a hit no matter who you cook it for!

Now, what I love about this recipe is that it puts a twist on a Chinese take-out classic using the southern flavor of Cajun.

    And trust me, it's amazing!

I mean it has layers upon layers of flavor. From the veggies to the seasonings, to the tender juicy shrimp, each bite brings a ton of umami goodness. Also, incorporated throughout the rice are tiny bits of fried eggs to add a delicious texture to the dish - gah, it's so good.

Now, I think this cajun shrimp with rice is a meal on its own, but it also makes a fantastic side for a big family dinner. With that said, this recipe will make about 2 servings, so just plan accordingly with how much you want to make - it's super simple to double or triple the recipe.

Also, if you are serving this cajun seasoning seafood rice, it goes terrific on the side with another seafood dish like this fried salmon or fried mahi mahi. And it's also pretty tasty with these chicken birria tacos.

With all of that said, this recipe is great for a quick, delicious weeknight meal with an easy clean-up, so any way you eat it, it'll be terrific!

    Ingredients

If you've got a hankering for some cajun cuisine that uses common ingredients this recipe is it.

Here's what you’ll need to make this easy cajun fried rice recipe:

    • 2 Eggs
    • ½ lb. (250g) Shrimp, peeled and deveined (can use fresh or frozen)
    • 2 tbsp. Sesame Oil
    • 1 tbsp. Garlic, chopped
    • 1 tbsp. Ginger, chopped
    • ½ cup Onion, chopped
    • 1 ½ cup Green Beans
    • 2 cups Cooked Rice
    • 1 tbsp. Hot Sauce
    • 2 tbsp. Soy Sauce
    • 2 tbsp. Cajun Seasoning
    • Sesame seeds

I told you! Not bad at all.

And as you can see, feel free to use fresh or frozen shrimp for this recipe. I like to use frozen shrimp since it actually tends to be fresher than actual fresh shrimp sitting out on the ice. Having said that, if you need to thaw the frozen shrimp, here are some of the best ways to do that.

Also, if you're buying frozen shrimp, pick up a few extra pounds so you can make this seafood stuffing or firecracker shrimp next! Or you can make this hibachi fried rice or Benihana fried rice, another one of the most delicious shrimp fried rice recipes.

Oh, and by the way, this recipe is super flexible. So feel free to adjust the seasoning to your taste preference, and add in or take out any veggies that you want!

How to Make Cajun Fried Rice

As I've said a few times, this cajun shrimp with rice is actually super easy to make! And everything cooks in just one skillet, making it that much better.

Now grab your large skillet, and let's dive into the cooking process!

    Step 1: Cooking the Rice

First, start by cooking the rice. You can use white rice, brown rice, or really any kind of rice that you want.

I prefer to use white rice because I think it makes the perfect blank canvas for all of the other components of this dish.

Now, boil a few cups of water and then cook the rice according to the directions on the package. And while the rice is cooking, you can prepare the rest of the components.

    Step 2: Cooking the Egg

To start, crack your eggs into a small bowl, mix them with a fork to combine the whites and yolks, and set them aside.

Next, add half the sesame oil to a large skillet and heat it at medium-low heat. Now you're going to add in the beaten eggs and cook just until there's no liquid - they'll cook pretty fast.

Then, when it's cooked, fold it in half and remove it from the pan. Oh, and to get that true egg-fried rice texture you want to cut the omelet up into little pieces before adding it to the rice.

Step 2: Cooking the Shrimp & Veggies

Now, you're going to add the rest of the sesame oil to the skillet and heat it at medium heat.

Once the oil is hot, add the shrimp to the pan in one even layer and sprinkle half the cajun seasoning over the shrimp and cook until the shrimp are pink.

After the cajun shrimp cook, you can set them aside.

Next, in the same pan, add the garlic, ginger, and onions and cook stirring occasionally for 5 minutes, or until they are fragrant and softened.

    Step 4: Frying the Rice

Finally, it’s time to add the rice and complete the dish!

Once the rice is ready, add the cooked rice to the pan with the green beans, hot sauce, soy sauce, and the rest of the cajun seasoning. Then stir everything in the skillet until it is evenly mixed.

Next, you're going to continue cooking everything, stirring occasionally until the rice gets a little crispy - this will take around 5-10 minutes.

    Step 5: Serving

Finally, once everything is cooked to perfection, either toss in the shrimp and the fried egg and give everything a mix to combine.

Alternatively, you can serve the fried rice in individual bowls and some of the shrimp and the fried egg on top. Garnish each portion with a sprinkling of sesame seeds and dig in!

How to Store Cajun Fried Rice

So, as I mentioned, this recipe will make about 2 servings if you're enjoying it as a main dish. But, if you're serving it as a side, it'll make about 4 servings.

And one of the best parts about this recipe is that it tastes incredible leftover, so you don't ever have to worry about making too much!

To store, transfer the shrimp fried rice to an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 4 days.

    Reheat your Cajun Fried Rice

The leftovers actually are pretty good cold, but you can definitely reheat them for that freshly made experience.

To reheat your cajun fried rice, transfer everything back to a large frying pan with a dash of water and heat on low for a few minutes until it reaches your desired temperature. And make sure to stir everything around constantly so it reheats evenly.

    Wrapping It All Up
