Ingredients You'll Need
One of my favorite things about this recipe is that it's a great excuse to use up some leftovers. On top of that, the rest of the ingredients are to make the sauce, and you probably already have them in your fridge.
Anyway, with that said, here's everything you'll need to make the bowl:
- 1 Cooked Salmon Filet
- 1 cup Cooked Sushi Rice
- 1 Ice Cube
- 1 tbsp. Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp. Mayo
- 1 tbsp. Sriracha or Kimchee Base Sauce
- ½ Avocado, sliced
- ¼ cup Roasted Seaweed Snack
- Chopped Cilantro
Super simple ingredients, right?!
By the way, if you're wondering, the ice cube helps add moisture to the leftover salmon and rice while it reheats. If you've ever reheated cooked rice, then you know it's best to add some type of moisture to it before reheating.
Oh, and this healthy bowl goes really well with this cucumber salad, so you might want to make that too!
Tailoring this Salmon Recipe To Your Tastes
One of the best things about this salmon rice bowl recipe is that you can easily tailor it to your tastes and preferences.
In the original TikTok video, the salmon rice bowl is eaten with chopsticks, and the rice and salmon mixture is scooped up with a roasted seaweed snack. However, if that isn't your preference, feel free to leave it out and just eat this with a spoon or fork.
Also, the original recipe encourages drizzling a variety of different sauces over the rice to add umami to it. Feel free to adjust those levels to suit your taste buds. If you want more of a spicy kick to your bowl, add more sriracha or even a bit of wasabi, and if you want less of a kick, add a little less Sriracha.
Craving a more creamy experience? Add more mayo or even a little sour cream.
As far as the rice goes, the original version is made with sushi rice. But, you can use brown rice, jasmine rice, basmati rice, fresh cilantro lime rice, or white rice in its place and it will still be delicious. We've actually made it a few times with jasmine rice at our house and it's amazing. Our 2-year-old especially likes it.
The possibilities are endless.
With that said, if you stick to this base recipe, I promise you will have a delicious salmon rice bowl that will be your new favorite way to eat leftovers.
How to make the Viral TikTok Salmon Rice Bowl
Ok, so as I mentioned before, this salmon rice bowl recipe takes less than 10 minutes, and besides microwaving the salmon and rice, there's really no cooking involved.
And remember, this TikTok salmon rice bowl recipe makes 1 large serving. But it's super easy to double or triple it if you want to serve it as a family meal!
Now, without further ado, let's make this salmon and rice bowl!
Step 1: Shred the Salmon
First, you're going to place the already cooked salmon in the base of a bowl and shred it with a fork.
Step 2: Heat the Salmon and Rice
Next, top the salmon fillets with the leftover rice and place an ice cube in the middle of the plate. Then, microwave it in 30-second increments until warm.
Once you take it out of the microwave, mix the salmon and rice until well combined and make sure it's reached your desired temperature.
Step 3: Add the Sauces
Now, you can make the sauce that gives this bowl recipe its unbelievable flavor. So add the soy sauce, mayo, and sriracha sauce to the bowl with the salmon and rice mixture.
Then stir to combine the sauce with the salmon bowl until the salmon and rice are coated in the sauce.
Step 4: Top and Serve
Finally, top this incredibly delicious bowl with some avocado slices, seaweed snacks, and chopped cilantro.
Then grab a fork - or spoon - and dig in! Enjoy!
How To Store The Salmon And Rice
So, since this recipe is made using leftovers, I do not suggest storing or reheating this salmon bowl if you don't finish it.
But, if you made the salmon and rice the day before assembling this bowl, you can store cooked salmon for up to 4 days and you can store cooked rice for up to 4 days as well. So the storage time for both components works out perfectly!
