HOW TO MAKE INSTANT POT FRENCH ONION SOUP
The process of making this Instant Pot French Onion Soup is so simple.
I like to call it a dump-and-go recipe. You just dump the ingredients in the Instant Pot, go watch a little tv, and before you know it, it's ready to be devoured.
As I said in the beginning, this is so much quicker than a traditional french onion soup recipe. So if you're ready for this rich, savory, and flavorful Instant Pot french onion soup, jump into making the recipe!
STEP 1: ADD THE INGREDIENTS
First, gather all of your ingredients so they're ready to go. And if you haven't sliced your onions yet, don't forget to do that!
Next, add the sweet onion slices, beef broth, butter, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic cloves, brown sugar, dry thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper to the Instant Pot.
STEP 2: COOKING THE SOUP
Now that all of those ingredients are in the Instant Pot, it' time to cook the soup!
So close the lid and cook at low pressure for 20 minutes.
Then when 20 minutes is up, release all of the steam, and when it is safe to do so, open the lid.
And that's it, you literally just made your soup - I told you it was easy!
STEP 3: FINISHING AND SERVING
Technically, this step is optional, but is it really french onion soup without the melty cheese and soft bread on top?
To finish off the soup, add the toasted sourdough bread on top, followed quickly by the parmesan cheese. By the way, a lot of times I like to broil my soup in the oven after I add the bread and cheese to it.
Then once the cheese is nice and melted, serve this delicious french onion soup and enjoy!
HOW TO STORE FRENCH ONION SOUP
So, this soup will make 2-4 servings depending on how you use the bread.
Then if you have any leftover soup, just transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 4 days.
By the way, make sure you store the soup without the bread on top and add it in after reheating.
Also, if you want to keep your soup for longer, you can also freeze it. Just make sure it cools down completely and then transfer it to an airtight container or freezer-safe bags for up to 3 months. Again, you'll want to freeze it without the bread on top.
REHEATING FRENCH ONION SOUP
Now, if you're eating the soup from the fridge, you can just pop it in the microwave for a quick reheating method. Or you can also reheat it in a saucepan on the stove.
Either way, warm until it is heated through, reaches your desired temperature, and immediately top with a slice of bread.
If you're reheating the frozen soup, let it thaw in the fridge overnight when you know you'll be eating it the next day. Then warm and prepare the same way as above.
WRAPPING IT ALL UP
Well, now you know how to make Instant Pot french onion soup in under 30 minutes!
This soup makes for the most delicious main dish, side, or even appetizer on a chilly day. It is just so warm, comforting, and loaded with flavor.
