HOW TO MAKE SPLIT PEA SOUP IN AN INSTANT POT
So, making this split pea soup in the Instant Pot is way quicker and easier than making it the traditional way!
The only thing you have to do is chop up a few of the ingredients and add everything to the pressure cooker - seriously, that's it!
Now get your ingredients prepared, and let's make some Instant Pot soup!
STEP 1: COOKING THE VEGGIES
First, turn the Instant Pot to the "saute" mode and add in the butter, onions, and garlic.
Saute these ingredients for about 5 minutes - until the butter melts and the onions and garlic are translucent.
Next, add the carrots and celery to the Instant Pot and continue cooking everything for another 5 minutes.
STEP 2: MAKING THE SOUP
Now, add the split peas, ham bone, bay leaf, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and chicken broth to the Instant Pot.
Then put the lid on and cook everything at high pressure for 20 minutes.
When the time is up, safely remove the lid and check the soup. If you want the split peas to be thicker, add some more broth. But if you are satisfied, you can serve the soup.
To serve, pour it into a bowl and top with lemon juice, fresh dill, and sour cream. Enjoy!
HOW TO STORE SPLIT PEA SOUP
This split pea soup recipe will make about 4-5 bowls of soup. So it is ideal for a family dinner or to make if you want some leftovers for a quick meal.
And honestly, I think it's even better leftover! All of the flavors really meld together, and it just tastes incredible days after making it.
If you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
Then to reheat, either warm it up in the microwave or on the stovetop until it reaches your desired temperature.
FREEZING THE SOUP
Now, if you want to keep the soup for longer, you can freeze it in airtight containers or freezer-safe bags for up to 4-6 months! So you should totally make a double or triple batch of this recipe.
Then to thaw the soup before enjoying it, you can use two different methods.
The first one is to transfer the soup from the freezer to the refrigerator one to two days before you plan on eating it. Then to warm it back up, just add a little broth to the soup and microwave or heat on the stovetop until it reaches your desired temperature.
But if you decide that you want some split pea soup on the spot, just place the soup - in its container - into a bowl of warm water until it loosens. Then, put it in a pot over medium-low heat, and frequently stir until warm.
WRAPPING IT ALL UP
There you have it, Instant Pot split pea soup that is hearty, comforting, and filled with flavor.
There really isn't a better recipe to make when it's chilly outside, and you want something nutritious and satisfying that will warm you up from the inside out.
And you can make a few batches of this soup at once and have it leftover for a quick and delicious reheated meal!
