The Best Air Fryer Baked Potato

If you've ever made baked potatoes at home before, you know it can be a long process. And honestly, using the oven for cooking them kept me from even wanting to make them - especially in the summertime.

Well, if you can relate, you'll love this air fryer baked potato! It's light and fluffy inside - loaded with classic ingredients like crispy bacon and sour cream - and just tastes amazing.

And compared to cooking them in the oven, when you air fry the best baked potato for this recipe, it doesn't take much time. They can be done in under 30 minutes, so you can have this tasty recipe ready in no time! And almost all of that is cook time!

Plus, they go so well as a side with literally any meal you want! I'll go over a few of my favorite recipes to pair with them later.

With that said though, if you really load them up, these air fryer potatoes make a filling meal all by themselves for dinner tonight!

By the way, if you like potatoes, you have to give these air fryer potato wedges a try next!

A baked potato split open on a white plate. There is part of two other baked potatoes on both sides of it.

    Ingredients

So, you really only need 1 ingredient for this recipe, and the rest of the list can be as minimal - or extensive - as you want!

Of course, it all depends on what you like to stuff in your baked potatoes after they air fry.

Here's everything you'll need to make a classic loaded baked potato:

    • 3-4 Russet Potatoes
    • Salt and Pepper
    • 2 tbsp. Butter
    • 2 tbsp. Sour Cream
    • ¼ cup Crispy Bacon
    • Chives, chopped

As you can see, I used russet potatoes for this recipe, but you can also use Yukon gold potatoes or even sweet potatoes, and they'll turn out just as delicious!

Now, this is everything that I think makes the best baked potatoes. But you can take away, or add in, anything else that you want - like some shredded cheddar cheese or peppers.

By the way, you can use all of these ingredients to make these twice baked mashed potatoes and cheesy mashed potatoes, so you'll definitely want to check those out next!

How to Make Baked Potatoes in Air Fryer

Ok, so the process of making baked potatoes in the air fryer could not be any easier. And the result is potato perfection every time.

So, even if you've never made baked potatoes before, they'll turn out restaurant-quality.

Now get out the ingredients, and let's get cooking!

Three potatoes in an air fryer. A hand is holding a bottle of cooking spray and spraying it on the potatoes.

    Step 1: Prep

Before anything else, preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180°C).

The first thing you'll want to do is clean the medium potatoes, dry them off, then prick them with a fork on every side. Oh, and this recipe calls for 3-4 potatoes, but you can make as many or as little as you want!

Next, put the potatoes in the air fryer basket. The number you can put in will depend on the size of your air fryer basket, just make sure potatoes are lying flat.

Then spray them with cooking spray - I used avocado oil, but if you don't have avocado oil, anything will work - and sprinkle sea salt and pepper.

Oh, and if you're wondering should baked potatoes be wrapped in foil, you don't have to for this recipe! Leaving them uncovered is actually what makes the texture/skin so good.

    Step 2: Cooking & Serving

Now that the potatoes are good to go, air fry them at 350°F (180ºC) for 25 minutes.

Then when the time is up, take the potatoes out and make sure they're fork tender, then let them cool for a few minutes

Once they're cooled, cut them lengthwise and open the baked potato in half. Either leave the inside how it is or break it up to make a puree.

Finally, top with butter, sour cream, crispy bacon, and freshly ground black pepper - or any of your favorite baked potato toppings - and enjoy!

What to Pair With An Air Fryer Baked Potato

While these homemade baked potatoes can be satisfying and filling on their own, they make an excellent side and go super well with a ton of different dishes!

Here are a few ideas for delicious recipes you can pair with the best baked potatoes:

    • Huli Huli Chicken
    • Fried Spaghetti
    • Popcorn Shrimp
    • Lamb Breast
    • Blackened Shrimp
    • Pioneer Woman Stuffing

    Storing Baked Potatoes

So, as I mentioned, you can make as many air fryer baked potatoes as you want. And don't worry if you end up making a few extra because you can store them for the next few days!

To store, let the baked potatoes cool completely, and then either put the

m in an airtight container - preferably a glass dish with a cover - or wrapped tightly in plastic wrap or tin foil.

Then you can store any leftovers in the fridge for 3-5 days. Just make sure that you don't put any toppings on the baked potato before storing it!

How To Reheat Baked Potatoes In The Air Fryer

Whenever you want to have your leftover baked potato, you can reheat it just how you cooked it - in the air fryer!

To reheat the baked potato in the air fryer, preheat it to 350°F (180°C) and then heat it for about 3-4 minutes or until it reaches your desired temperature.

Then, put on the toppings of your choice, and dig in!

    Wrapping It All Up

Well, that is how to make baked potatoes in the air fryer in under 30 minutes! It's never been easier to cook potatoes that come out perfect.

Seriously these really are the best baked potatoes. Each one comes out so soft and tender on the inside, perfectly crispy outside, and ready to be loaded up with a variety of delicious toppings.

These are the perfect side for a family dinner that everyone will love! Plus, you can mix and match what recipes you pair it with to create a bunch of complete, delicious meals.

Anyway, I hope you like this air fryer baked potato recipe as much as my family and I do. If you decide to give it a try, let me know how it turned out in the comments below!

I never make baked potatoes because I hate how long they take and I can never cook them right. The air fryer was great and they actually turned out how I hoped!
