    The Best Peppermint Cheesecake

If you're in need of the perfect holiday dessert, then you've come to the right place.

This chocolate peppermint cheesecake recipe is truly one of the best cheesecake recipes I've ever made, and I just know you're going to love it.

I mean, it's got all the makings of a perfect cheesecake. It's got a decadently delicious homemade Oreo cookie crust and smooth rich peppermint cheesecake filling that's to die for. Oh, and all of that tasty tastiness gets topped with a smooth chocolate frosting too.

Gah, it's good. Honestly, it might be as good as the peppermint cheesecake Cheesecake Factory serves. And it's even better served with my peppermint ice cream!

This cheesecake isn't just super tasty though, it's super easy to make too. In fact, my favorite part about this peppermint cheesecake recipe is how easy it is to prepare. All you have to do is make the crust, make the filling, add the filling to the crust, and then bake everything in the oven for an hour.

Sounds easy peasy, right?  Honestly, the hardest part of the entire process is waiting for the cheesecake to bake.

Slice of peppermint cheesecake that is topped with a white frosting, chocolate frosting, crushed candy canes and start sprinkles.

    Ingredients

This chocolate peppermint cheesecake is homemade from the crust to the filling. That being said, I guarantee if you love to bake, then you probably have all or most of the ingredients you'll need in your kitchen already!

Anyway, here's what you'll need to make this peppermint cheesecake, starting with the Oreo crust:

    • 2 cups Oreos (14 cookies)
    • 2 tbsp. butter, melted
    • ¼ tsp. Salt

And here's what you'll need for the peppermint cheesecake filling:

    • 1 pound cream cheese, softened
    • 4 oz. sour cream
    • ¾ cup sugar
    • 3 eggs
    • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
    • 1 tsp. peppermint extract
    • ¼ cup crushed peppermint candies (or crushed candy canes)

Lastly, here is what you'll need for the chocolate ganache topping:

    • ½ cup white chocolate
    • Chocolate frosting or whipped cream

    Pretty simple stuff, right?!

Now, when it comes to the Oreo crust, I'll be making one from scratch, but if you want to save a little bit of time, you can buy a premade store bought Oreo crust, and it will still turn out really good.

Oh, and feel free to experiment with additional toppings for your cheesecake, but I definitely recommend sticking with the chocolate ganache on top. In addition to the chocolate ganache, I will sometimes also add chopped chocolate or semi sweet chocolate chips.

By the way, you can use almost all of these same ingredients to make these mini cheesecake bites, this no bake cheesecake with Cool Whip, and this Mississippi mud pie.

An assortment of ingredients including bowls of Oreo cookies, white chocolate, cream cheese, butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.

    How To Make Peppermint Cheesecake

As I mentioned before, this peppermint cheesecake is super easy to make. It only has 5 basic steps, and most of the time it takes to make it is spent cooking in the oven.

Anyway, let's stop wasting time and make this delicious peppermint cheesecake!

Food processor with dark chocolate crumbs and melted butter, surrounded by ingredients including bowls of white chocolate, cream cheese, eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract.

    Step 1: Prep Work

First things first, preheat the oven to 350°F (180ºC) and line a 8x8 inch springform pan with parchment paper.

Then, you'll want to make the Oreo cookie crust. So, to do that, you'll want to add the Oreo cookies to a food processor - or blender - and pulse 'em until grainy. Once that happens you can add the melted butter and salt to the food processor and pulse them to combine everything together.

Hand holding springform pan lined with parchment paper with a dark chocolate crust. The crust is surrounded by raw ingredients for cheesecake.

    Step 2: Bake the Crust

Now you can add the Oreo crumbs to the prepared springform pan and press them into your pan with the back of a spoon to form the crust.

Then, when that's looking good, you can put it in the oven and bake the Oreo crust for around 10 minutes. Once the time is up, let the crust cool and move on to making the filling.

Mixing bowl filled with cream cheese and sugar not yet mixed together, surrounded by raw ingredients for cheesecake.

Step 3: Make the Cheesecake Filling

While the crust is cooling, you'll want to make the peppermint-flavored cheesecake filling.

So, the first thing you'll want to do to make it is add the cream cheese and sour cream to a large bowl. Then, you'll want to mix these two ingredients together with an electric mixer until they are smooth and combined.

Now, when that's looking good, you'll want to add sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, peppermint extract, and crushed candy canes to the bowl and then blend everything together until the cheesecake batter is smooth.

Once your batter is nice and smooth, you can transfer it to the freshly baked crust.

Mixing bowl filled with a mixed cheesecake batter and crushed candy canes freshly added and not yet mixed in.

    Step 4: Bake The Cheesecake

Now it's time to bake the cheesecake!

So, you'll want to lower your oven temperature to 320°F (160ºC), and then place the cheesecake in the oven. Bake it for 1 hour, then turn off the oven, open the oven door and leave it open until the cheesecake comes down to room temperature.

By the way, if your oven doesn't stay open on its own, you can use a wooden spoon to keep it from closing.

    Step 5: Make The Topping

While the cheesecake is cooling, you'll want to melt the white chocolate in the microwave in two 1-minute increments, stirring between each one until fully melted.

Then, when that's looking good, you can drizzle the chocolate over the cheesecake and top the whole thing with more crushed candy canes and some dollops of chocolate frosting - or some whipped cream - if you want.

Finally, serve this delicious peppermint cheesecake and enjoy!

    How To Store Peppermint Cheesecake

This recipe for peppermint cheesecake makes about 8 servings, depending on how you slice it. So it makes for the perfect holiday dessert to share and it's almost guaranteed to satisfy all of your guests.

Also, it stores really well too. So, if you end up with some leftover peppermint cheesecake just store it in an airtight container in the fridge and it'll stay good for up to 4 days.

Alternatively, if you want to store this cheesecake for longer, you can store it in an airtight container in the freezer for about a month. Then, when you're ready to enjoy another slice of cheesecake, simply let it thaw in the fridge for an hour or two, and enjoy.
