The Best Olive Garden Chicken Marsala Recipe

Chicken marsala has always been one of those dishes that just seems to turn out better in a restaurant as opposed to at home. Well, that is until you try this copycat Olive Garden chicken marsala recipe.

This chicken marsala recipe combines so many rich flavors and turns everything into a cohesive, delicious dish that is just unbeatable. Seriously, even the pickiest of eaters still seem to enjoy this recipe. So it's no wonder chicken marsala is one of Olive Garden's signature dishes!

Now, just in case you're unfamiliar with chicken marsala, it's essentially lightly breaded chicken breasts served with sautéed mushrooms that are cooked in a flavorful, creamy sauce. It sounds simple, but the flavor encompassed in this recipe is extraordinary.

Also, since chicken marsala is a dish of many moving parts, I like to make sides that complement the main course but don't steal the show. Things like mashed potatoes or lightly seasoned veggies are always the perfect choices. So I highly recommend making these honey glazed candied carrots and these red skin mashed potatoes to go with this meal. Or, for other mashed potatoes, you can make these cheesy mashed potatoes.

    Ingredients

Surprisingly, the ingredient list for this copycat chicken marsala Olive Garden recipe is pretty short. And you can certainly find every ingredient at your nearest grocery store - if it's not already in your kitchen.

Anyway, here's what you'll need for the chicken:

    • 2-4 Chicken Breasts, in big cuts
    • ¼ cup All-Purpose Flour
    • 1 tbsp. Dried Oregano
    • ½ tsp. Salt
    • ½ tsp. Pepper
    • 2 tbsp. Butter
    • 2 tbsp. Olive Oil

And for the signature savory sauce:

    • 2 cups Fresh Mushrooms, sliced
    • 1 cup Marsala Wine
    • Fresh Parsley, to serve

Pretty basic and common stuff, right?

Now, keep in mind that you should use cooking wine, as opposed to the wine that's meant to be enjoyed as a drink. Usually, marsala wine for cooking can be found in the vinegar aisle of the grocery store.

As for some optional ingredients, if you want a creamy sauce, then be sure to add a splash of heavy cream. You don't need a lot to make a huge difference. And if you want to add another element to this dish, you can top it off with some grated parmesan cheese.

Oh, and if you have any leftover mushrooms after making this chicken marsala, you can use them to make this cube steak with mushroom gravy next!

A variety of ingredients for chicken marsala including bowls of raw chicken, sliced mushrooms, salt, pepper, butter, and a flour mixture, all on a grey countertop.

How To Make Olive Garden Chicken Marsala

As I eluded to earlier, my favorite part about making Olive Garden's chicken marsala with this recipe is just how easy it is to make the whole dish come together.

Honestly, it's one of the easiest chicken recipes, and you don't need to have cooking experience to make this, but it'll taste as if a pro chef made it!

So, let's not waste another second and jump into the recipe!

Raw chicken covered in a flour mixture on a white plate with a fork on the plate and small bowls of sliced mushrooms, salt, pepper, butter, oil, and marsala wine.

    Step 1: Coat The Chicken

We are going to start by making the flour mixture to give the chicken breast a crispy coating. In a medium bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, dried oregano, salt, and pepper together.

Then, coat each of the chicken breast pieces evenly with the flour mixture.

Raw chicken breast pieces covered in a flour mixture in a cast iron pan, with bubbling butter and oil and raw sliced mushrooms in a bowl next to the pan.

    Step 2: Cook The Chicken

Now it's time to cook our chicken. Grab your favorite cast iron skillet and melt the butter with the oil.

Once the skillet is hot, add the chicken breast pieces to it and cook the chicken pieces until lightly browned on both sides. When they are - and the chicken has reached an internal temperature of 165°F - set the pieces aside.

    Step 3: Combine Everything

Now, in the same skillet that you cooked the chicken in you'll want to add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until golden brown. Then, once the mushrooms have been sauteed, add the chicken breasts back to the skillet with the mushrooms, and add the marsala wine.

Now cook everything together in the skillet for about 10 minutes, or until you have a nicely thickened marsala sauce.

    Step 4: Assemble and Serve

So, now that your kitchen smells amazing and everyone asks what you're cooking, it's time to plate this classic dish.

Serve your Olive Garden chicken marsala with plenty of marsala sauce on top and some fresh parsley.

    Finally, serve and enjoy!

How To Store Olive Garden Chicken Marsala

So, this recipe for Olive Garden chicken marsala will make around 4 servings. And that should be the perfect amount for a big family dinner. However, if you want more, you can always double or triple the ingredients that are used.

Also, just so you know, if you have any leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for about 4 days.

    How to reheat chicken marsala

To reheat your chicken marsala, I recommend placing it in the oven set to 350°F for about 15 minutes, or until thoroughly heated.

You can also reheat your chicken marsala in a frying pan - or skillet - set over medium heat for a few minutes until warm. Just make sure to frequently stir everything while reheating.

Alternatively, you can warm this dish up in the microwave. Just cook it in 20-second increments until warm.

FAQs About This Olive Garden Chicken Marsala recipe

What is chicken marsala served with?

Chicken marsala is traditionally served with buttered pasta at restaurants, but you can serve it at home with literally anything you want! It goes great with these Red Lobster brussell sprouts, air fryer garlic, and cheesy mashed potatoes.

What does marsala wine taste like?

Marsala wine for cooking is usually dry, with hints of nuttiness, brown sugar, and even tamarind! The marsala gives this incredibly easy savory sauce a really delicious, balanced flavor.
