How To Make Million Dollar Spaghetti Casserole
1. Prep: Preheat the oven to 350°F (180ºC). Cook the pasta according to package instructions and strain it. Return the strained pasta to the pot, add half of the spaghetti sauce, and give it a good mix. Set aside for later.
2. Cook the sausage: In a large skillet, heat olive oil and add the onion and garlic. Cook for a couple of minutes until soft and fragrant. Add the sausage and Italian seasoning to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Cook the sausage, breaking it apart, until it's browned on all sides. Add the rest of the sauce and mix well.
3. Make the cheese mixture: In a large bowl, mix the ricotta cheese or cream cheese, cottage cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese. Give everything a good mix until the cheeses are fully combined.
4. Assemble the casserole: Take out a medium-sized casserole dish and add half the spaghetti to it, followed by half of the cheese mixture, and then finally half of the sausage mixture. Add the remaining spaghetti on top of that, followed by the rest of the cheese mixture and the rest of the sausage. Finally, top everything with the other half of the mozzarella cheese.
5. Bake and serve: Put the casserole dish in the oven and bake the casserole for about 25 minutes until the cheese is nice and bubbly. Garnish with some fresh parsley and serve warm. Enjoy!
Tips To Make The Best Recipe
- Substitute ground Italian sausage with ground beef, ground turkey, or ground chicken for the ground meat sauce.
- Use cream cheese instead of ricotta cheese for a different flavor and creamy texture.
- Top the casserole with mozzarella and parmesan cheese before baking for a cheesier flavor.
- Add some grated parmesan cheese on top of the casserole after it bakes.
