This keto fried chicken is easily one of the best keto dinner recipes you'll ever make. That's because this isn't just any keto fried chicken recipe, this is the best low carb fried chicken recipe there is - and each serving has UNDER 1 NET CARB. And what's even better than the carb count on this fried chicken is the taste of it. This keto fried chicken is crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection!
THE BEST KETO FRIED CHICKEN
This keto fried chicken recipe is the ultimate crowd-pleaser. Adults love it, kids love it, and I have a pretty good feeling you're going to love it too.
The crisp and flavorful breading wrapped around tender and juicy chicken is pure deliciousness on a plate – it's honestly so phenomenal that when I make it, no one can even tell it's low carb.
And when I say this recipe is low carb, I mean it. Each piece of this keto fried chicken literally has 0.75g NET CARBS.
Not to mention, making it is a breeze - all it takes is 15 minutes to put together, and then the rest is cook-time. Plus, you have a couple of cooking options when it comes to this keto fried chicken - you can make it in your air fryer or your oven.
Oh, and if you're looking for the perfect thing to pair with this recipe, you have to make these Keto French Fries and Keto White Gravy. The three of them together is a total keto KFC experience.
INGREDIENTS
Ok, so the ingredients for this keto-friendly fried chicken are mostly kitchen staples that you either already have on hand, or won't have any trouble finding at the store.
Here's what you'll need:
- 6 chicken pieces (of your choice - I used legs)
- Salt and pepper
- Avocado oil spray
- 2 eggs
- ⅔ cup almond flour
- ½ cup grated parmesan
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
The only ingredient that's a little less common is the avocado oil spray.
Now, if you don't have it on hand, any cooking spray will work just fine.

FLOURS TO USE & AVOID TO MAKE YOUR FRIED CHICKEN KETO FRIENDLY
As you may have noticed we will be using almond flour to make this keto and gluten-free fried chicken. And almond flour is not only low carb, but it's easy to find, and it performs the same way as regular flour. This is why it's my favorite keto flour to use.
Having said that, if you can't find almond flour - or don't want to use it - there are a couple of keto-friendly flours that will work just as well. My top recommendations are walnut flour and sunflower seed flour - both can substitute with almond flour on a one-for-one basis and are also low carb flours.
And if you don't want to use any flour, you can make this keto fried chicken with pork rinds or cheese crisps. Just replace the ⅔ cups of almond flour with pork rind crumbs or the crisps.
What To Avoid
As far as what you should avoid, I highly recommend you DO NOT use coconut flour.
Coconut flour is not an ideal substitute for the almond flour because it's very absorbent, and will leave you with a dry, crumbly breading that will likely just fall off the chicken.
Also, it will give the fried chicken a coconut taste. And, I don't know about you, but I'd rather not have my fried chicken taste like coconut.
GRATE YOUR OWN CHEESE
Speaking of the breading, you'll want to make sure you shred your own block of parmesan cheese with a grater – or find a brand that has parmesan cheese as the only ingredient.
Grating your cheese will ensure that you keep your fried chicken breading as low carb as possible.
Pre-shredded cheeses typically come coated with added starches that keep the cheese from sticking together but add more carbs.
So taking that extra step to grate it yourself can go a long way as far as the carb count goes.
HOW TO MAKE KETO FRIED CHICKEN
Alright, so this keto fried chicken recipe is super simple to make.
As I mentioned earlier, it should only take you about 15 minutes to prepare the fried chicken, and the rest is just baking time.
With that being said, let's get into the steps for this recipe!
STEP 1: PREPARING THE CHICKEN
Ok, so the first thing you'll want to do is preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C).
Then you are going to prepare a broil pan with a rack to cook your chicken on. The rack will ensure that your chicken cooks evenly and gets the crispy texture that makes this fried chicken so good.
Next, you will want to pat your chicken dry with paper towels and then season it with salt and pepper to taste.
STEP 2: MAKING THE BREADING
For the keto fried chicken breading, you will prepare two bowls for dipping your chicken into to coat it. One bowl will have egg and the other will have the keto breading.
In the first bowl, whisk the eggs until the whites and yolks are well combined.
Then, put all of your breading ingredients - almond flour, parmesan, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder - in the second bowl. Mix all of these ingredients until they are thoroughly combined.
STEP 3: COATING THE CHICKEN
Now, we'll be doing two layers of the breading on the fried chicken for maximum crunchiness and an even coating.
So, working with one piece at a time, start by rolling the chicken in the breading.
Then, once the entire piece is coated, dip it in the whisked egg and make sure the chicken is covered. When it is, put the chicken back in the bowl with the breading to coat it with a second layer.
Pro-tip: Use one hand for dipping the chicken in egg and the other hand for covering it in breading.
STEP 4: BAKING AND SERVING
After all the chicken pieces are breaded, you will spray each one with avocado oil.
Then arrange the chicken evenly on your rack and place the rack and broil pan into the oven and bake for 40 minutes.
Once the chicken is cooked, serve and enjoy!
FRIED CHICKEN IN THE AIR FRYER
As I mentioned, it is just as easy to make this keto fried chicken in the air fryer. All you have to do is tweak the temperature and cooking time a little.
First, you'll want to preheat the air fryer to 325°F (160°C).
Follow the rest of the recipe as is, then instead of placing the chicken on a rack in the oven, transfer it to the air fryer basket and cook for 30-35 minutes – don't forget to give the basket a good shake halfway through!
By the way, if your air fryer is on the smaller side, you may want to work in batches and cook one or two pieces of chicken at a time.
Overcrowding the basket can lower the overall temperature and lead to uneven cooking.
STORING AND REHEATING YOUR KETO FRIED CHICKEN
Now, this recipe makes 6 pieces of chicken, but you can easily double or triple the recipe depending on how many people will be eating this classic comfort food.
And don't worry about making too much because you can keep your leftover fried chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
If you still have some leftovers after that, you can put your keto fried chicken in the freezer, where it will stay good for up to 4 months.
Then to reheat it, you can pop the fried chicken in the oven or air fryer at the same temperature you cooked it. Just leave it in for about 5-10 minutes or until the chicken is warmed all the way through.
NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION
The best part about this low carb fried chicken has to be that each piece has only 0.75 NET CARBS. I mean, you can't get any more low carb than that.
Keep in mind that the nutritional information will change slightly based on the size of your pieces of chicken, but it will still be super low carb.
