    The Best Ham Salad Recipe

If you've never had ham salad before, you might think it's a little odd. I have to admit, I was skeptical at first, but after giving it a go, I don't plan on ever going back to basic egg salad ever again!

Seriously, this ham salad is like egg salad but taken to a whole new level of tasty tastiness. With the addition of leftover ham, and a few of my secret ingredients, what would be an average egg salad recipe becomes something so much more.

And, honestly, this ham salad recipe is basically just as quick and easy to make as a regular egg salad recipe is. So, there really are no downsides to whipping this up.

Also, as I mentioned, you can make a killer ham salad sandwich out of this salad, but you can also serve it on some crackers, or spread it on this garlic bread for a killer lunch.

Anyway, having said all of that, any way you decide to eat this ham salad will be delicious!

    Ingredients

This ham salad is really just an elevated egg salad recipe. So, if you've got ham, and all of the typical egg salad ingredients, then you probably have everything to make this stuff at home already.

Anyway, here's everything you'll need to make this ham salad:

    • 1 cup ham, chopped
    • 2 hardboiled eggs, chopped
    • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
    • 2 tbsp chopped pickles
    • 2 tsp mustard
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1 ½ tbsp lemon juice
    • 1 tsp onion powder, optional
    • Parsley, as garnish

    Pretty basic stuff, right?

Now, to make this recipe even quicker, I like to use leftover ham. But if you don't have leftover ham, you use any precooked ham from the grocery store or even make this air fryer ham steak.

Also, making ham earlier in the week for dinner is a great idea because you can use the leftovers for this ham and potato casserole or ham and beans recipe. So your meals will be all set for the week!

    How To Make Ham Salad

So, I've said this a couple of times already, but it's worth repeating again. This is an incredibly easy to make ham salad.

In fact, from start to finish this recipe will take you just 10 minutes to make - if that! And the entire cooking process is as easy as following just 3 simple steps.

Anyway, now let's get into those steps!

A food processor with processed ham mixture.

    Step 1: Prepare The Ham

First, before you begin, you'll want to make sure you have some chopped, cooked ham ready to go.

Then, when you do, you'll want to place the ham in a food processor and pulse it a few times until it becomes coarsely chopped. Also, just so you know, you might need to stop the processor a few times to scrape down the sides of it. Doing this will help you get all of the ham evenly chopped.

A clear bowl with ham salad ingredients not yet mixed together.

    Step 2: Mix The Ingredients

Now you can transfer the ham mixture into a medium-sized bowl and add in the eggs, mayonnaise, pickles, mustard, salt and pepper, lemon juice, and onion powder - if you're using it.

Then, once everything is in the bowl, you can mix the ham salad spread until everything has fully combined.

Step 3: Chill The Ham Salad

Now, I know you'll probably want to dig into this deliciousness the moment after you make it. But, for the best results, you'll want to chill the ham salad in the fridge. 30 minutes minimum is what I recommend.

Having said that though, chilling it is totally optional. So you can eat it immediately after you make it if you want!

How To Make Deviled Ham Salad

If you want to take this easy ham salad recipe a step further, you can easily make deviled ham salad. All it takes is a few minor adjustments, and you can elevate this salad even more.

So to make a deviled ham salad just add ½ tablespoon of apple cider vinegar - or white vinegar - ¼ teaspoon of paprika, and ½ tablespoon of dill pickle relish to the ingredient mixture. Then, just mix all of those ingredients in with the ones I listed before, and finally top your ham salad off with a sprinkle of paprika.

    Pretty easy, right?!

How To Store Leftover Ham Salad

This recipe for ham salad makes about 2 servings. And, as you may have guessed, it makes for great leftovers. So you might want to double - or triple - the recipe when you make it.

Honestly, I think it tastes even better leftover since the flavors have more time to develop. And speaking of leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container and keep 'em in the fridge for up to 4 days.

However, if you want to keep this ham salad for even longer, you can totally freeze it. To do that, just freeze the ham salad in an airtight container - or freezer-safe bag - with the air squeezed out and it will stay good for up to 1 month.

    Wrapping It Up

I know I'm a little biased, but I'm pretty confident that you won't find an easier or more delicious recipe for ham salad than this one.

Seriously, all this takes is a few minutes to whip up and it tastes incredible - it's creamy, tangy, and oh-so-savory. Not to mention, everyone I've had try it, loves it.

Way better than the egg salad that I have been stuck making for years. I'll be making this for years to come instead!
