    The Best Birria Ramen

Birria and ramen are two awesome dishes alone. But, when combined, they might actually be even better.

Seriously, if you love birria tacos and ramen, then you're absolutely going to love this birria ramen recipe. I mean, how could you not? It has tender meat cooked in a flavorful broth of peppers and spices, and then all of that deliciousness is served with instant ramen noodles and topped with an assortment of fresh veggies.

    Gah, it's just so good!

Even the pickiest of eaters in your family will love this dish, I know mine do.

Now, my favorite part about this ramen birria recipe, aside from how tasty it is, is its convenience. Only 10 minutes of prep time are needed, then the slow cooker does the hard work of breaking down the beef until it's tender and juicy. Honestly, homemade ramen couldn't get any easier to make than this.

By the way, I know I mentioned that this birria recipe with ramen is better together, but just in case you're more of a traditionalist, I have fantastic recipes for chicken birria tacos and cheesy ramen already on the blog that you might want to checkout sometime. They're both straight fire.

Oh, one more thing before we move on, just in case you don't have a slow cooker, I've also included instructions for using an Instant Pot to make this birria ramen recipe as well.

    Ingredients

I've already mentioned a few of the ingredients that are in this birria ramen, but only a handful more are needed to really make this dish shine.

Honeslty, you might even have the rest of them on hand at home already! If not though, one quick trip to the grocery store is all you'll need before it's time to break out that slow cooker.

Anyway, here's what you'll need to make this birria ramen recipe:

    • 2 Guajillo Dried Peppers
    • 2 Ancho Dried Peppers
    • 1 ½ cup Boiling water
    • 1 tsp. Cumin
    • 1 Garlic Clove, minced
    • 2 tsp. Dried Oregano
    • 1 Cinnamon Stick, broken into pieces
    • 1 Bay Leaf
    • ½ lb. (250g) Chuck Roast
    • 1 Package Instant Ramen

And here's what we will be using for our toppings:

    • Red onion
    • Fresh cilantro
    • Radish
    • Lime

See, that's not too bad, right?

By the way, if you have all of these ingredients, then you have everything you need to make these birria tacos next! So, if you're ever craving authentic birria tacos, check that recipe out.

    Ingredient Substitutions And Suggestions

So, this recipe calls for instant ramen, and I used this because it is the most convenient option. But, of course, you can use fresh noodles instead of instant if you prefer. Just keep in mind the cooking time will vary if you're using fresh ramen noodles.

As for the toppings, what I listed above are my recommendations, but you can add whatever toppings you want. Some other great toppings to go along with the ones I mentioned are shredded cabbage, toasted sesame seeds, or diced green onion. All of these toppings go great on my creamy ramen too.

    How To Make Birria Ramen

Even if you've never made ramen - or birria stew - before, you'll have no problem making this birria ramen. As I mentioned earlier, the crock pot really does the hard work for you.

You basically make a rich sauce with your guajillo chiles, then sear the beef, and add everything into your crock pot. Then, the crockpot does all of the heavy lifting until it's time to add the noodles. Once the noodles are cooked, dinner is ready. It's a simple 4 step process that's basically no-fail.

With that all that said, let's dive into how to make birria ramen!

A hand straining broth into a bowl, separating the chunks of peppers, surrounded by an assortment of ingredients for birria ramen

    Step 1: Make The Sauce

First, we'll start by making the richly flavorful sauce. Begin by boiling water, then add it to a blender along with the seeded guajillo and ancho peppers.

Next, add the cumin, garlic, dried oregano, cinnamon, and bay leaf and blend until everything is smooth and combined. Then, you can transfer the sauce to a strainer to remove any big chunks and set it aside for later.

    Step 2: Prepare The Beef

Now it's time to prepare the fork tender birria meat. Start by evenly seasoning the beef with salt and pepper.

Then, heat a non-stick skillet to medium-high heat on the stovetop and sear the meat for a minute on both sides until golden brown.

Step 3: Cook The Beef and Ramen

Next, you can add the seared beef and prepared sauce from earlier to your slow cooker and let it cook on low for 5-7 hours, or until the beef is fork-tender. If you can't easily shred the beef with two forks, let it continue cooking.

Now, when the beef is almost done cooking, you can make the instant ramen noodles. So, to do that, just add your instant ramen noodles to a pot of boiling water let them cook until soft, and then strain them.

    Step 4: Serve

Finally, when everything is cooked, it's time to serve!

So, you can add the rich birria broth to a bowl along with the cooked noodles and shredded beef. Then, just follow that up by adding a combination of toppings - like diced onion, radish, cilantro, and lime juice - and enjoy!

    How To Store Birria Ramen

This recipe for birria ramen makes two hearty servings. So, it's perfect as a dinner for two, or, just for one, with some leftovers. And speaking of leftovers, this birria ramen makes some excellent ones.

So, to store your leftover birria ramen, all you have to do is transfer it to an airtight container and keep it in the fridge. Stored this way the ramen will last for up to 4 days.

    How To Reheat Birria Ramen

Now, this may seem obvious, but it's easy to reheat ramen and have it turn out just as good - if not better - the following day. When it comes to reheating, you have a couple of options.

The quickest way is to microwave your leftover birria ramen in 20-second increments until it is thoroughly warm. With that said, I recommend putting a microwave-safe plate over the top of your bowl - it will just help keep your microwave clean from splashes.

Alternatively, you can reheat the leftover ramen on the stovetop in a pot set to medium heat. Cook until it's warm, stirring frequently to make sure everything reheats evenly.

    Wrapping It Up

Well, that's how to make birria ramen in just a few simple and easy steps!

I love this ramen recipe, not only because it is easy but because it's so unique. It has all the classic flavors of a Mexican stew but with delicious ramen noodles to make you feel full and satisfied.

This really makes the perfect dinner for those busy weeknights or when you don't feel like cooking anything that's too involved.
