    The Best Mississippi Chicken

This Mississippi chicken is cooked to fork-tender perfection and filled with a mix of delicious flavors. And making Mississippi chicken couldn't be easier thanks to the slow cooker!

It really doesn't take any effort at all, and that's why it's one of my favorite slow cooker recipes. All it takes is 5 minutes of prep time, and then you can let the crockpot do the hard part.

This crockpot Mississippi chicken is one of my family's favorite recipes. And that's a win for me because it doesn't take much cooking skill, and I'm able to multitask while the Mississippi chicken is cooking.

And because this recipe is so effortless, it's a great one to cook on those busy weeknights or to make as meal prep on Sunday before the work week starts. This crockpot Mississippi chicken stores super well, and the delicious flavors taste even better leftover.

If you're looking for side dish recipes that are just as effortless to pair with this chicken dish, I have a few favorites. This asparagus casserole, jalapeno poppers, and southern cornbread all go really well. Or, if you want a classic chicken and rice meal, this egg fried rice and coconut rice goes well.

Now, let's get into the ingredients you'll need for this crockpot Mississippi chicken recipe.

A fork laying over a bowl that is filled with shredded chicken and pepperocinis. Next to it is a bowl of pepperocinis.

    Ingredients

Crockpot recipes usually have simple ingredients, and this Mississippi chicken is no different! A quick trip to the grocery store will secure everything you need, that is if you don't already have it.

So here's what you'll need to make this Mississippi chicken recipe:

    • 2 Chicken Breasts
    • 1 packet Gravy Mix, prepared
    • 1 packet Ranch Dressing Mix
    • ¼ cup Salted Butter
    • 5 Pepperoncinis

    Yes, seriously, that's it!

So, as you can see, this slow cooker Mississippi chicken doesn't take too many ingredients, and honestly, it's pretty flexible. You can use any flavored gravy packet you want like au jus.

As for the ranch seasoning mix, I think this is one of the best things to happen to the recipe world. It's a delicious blend of spices with a creamy base, and it makes this Mississippi chicken dish taste exquisite! I highly recommend using the hidden valley ranch dressing packet specifically. You can use it in other recipes like making this Wingstop ranch dressing.

So, now that you have your ingredients ready, let's make this absolutely delicious slow cooker Mississippi chicken recipe!

A bowl of gravy mix, a bowl of chicken breats, a bowl of a slap of butter, and a bowl of pepperocinis all on a grey counter.

    How to Make Mississippi Chicken

So like I mentioned before, this recipe is really, really simple. It should only take about 5 minutes to prepare, and the crockpot will cook for about 4 hours tops.

    Now let's make Mississippi chicken!

Three chicken breasts in a crock pot.

    Step 1: Add the Ingredients

First, put the boneless skinless chicken breasts, gravy mix, ranch dressing mix, salted butter, and pepperoncini to a crockpot or slow cooker.

Butter, pepperocinis, gravy mix, and chicken breasts in a crock pot.

Step 2: Cook and Shred Chicken

Next, you're going to cook the chicken on low for about 3-4 hours or until it's fork tender.

Once the chicken is cooked, shred the chicken breasts using two forks.

Now, let the chicken cook in the juices a bit longer or until the juice thickens to a gravy consistency.

    Step 3: Serve

Finally, the shredded chicken on a plate with your desired sides. Then you can either slice the pepperoncini or leave it whole to eat with the shredded chicken.

And to add a little more flavor, make sure to use the cooking juice to act like gravy and pour it over everything.

    Serve and enjoy!

    How to store Mississippi Chicken

As I mentioned, this Missippi chicken is delicious leftover. And it makes 4 servings, so unless you're having it for a big family dinner, you should have leftovers.

If you do, you can store the chicken in the fridge in an airtight container for about 4 days.

    How to Reheat Mississippi Chicken

This Mississippi chicken is delicious cold by itself or eaten as a sandwich. And it's also really good reheated.

To heat, a great way is to lay the shredded chicken out on a baking sheet and heat it in the oven at 400°F for about 10 minutes or until it reaches your desired temperature.

    Wrapping It All Up
