These fried jalapenos are crispy, crunchy, and pack a spicy punch. They seriously might become one of your favorite appetizers of all time. Plus, they are so easy to make. All you need is a few basic ingredients and 15 minutes to get these amazing fried jalapenos on the table.
The best fried jalapenos
Jalapeno poppers are a delicious appetizer to order at restaurants.
And these fried jalapenos are just like those, but they don't have any cheese like poppers typically have! They have a spicy-crunchy combo that is just so good. And the zestiness and spice of the pepper come together with a flavorful homemade batter to create a match made in heaven.
Now, as I said before, they take only 15 minutes to make, and the process is super easy from beginning to end. So, you’ll be filling your belly with spicy goodness in no time.
Oh, and if you want something to go alongside it, these biscuits and Jamaican fried dumplings are a great pair of recipes to help cut the spice.
Ingredients
Now, the ingredients for this fried jalapeno recipe may be simple, but they make the flavor out of this world. The savory seasoning with the crunchy batter and spicy finish make them addictively delicious.
Here’s everything you’ll need:
- 6 fresh jalapeno peppers sliced into rings
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 large eggs
- 4 ounces light beer
The real game-changer for this batter is the beer. The bubbles make the batter light and crispy, and add a subtle flavor that makes these fried jalapenos absolutely killer!
Also, you've got to love the fact that most of these ingredients are pantry staples that you probably have already. At the most, you might just need to pop into the store for some cold ones and maybe the jalapenos.
Oh, and if you like these fried jalapenos there's probably a good chance you’ll love these corn nuggets and fried pickles too. So definitely try that recipe out next time you crave something tangy and fried.
How to Make Fried Jalapenos
Now that you have everything you need, it’s time to get cooking!
Like I said before, the process to make these is super simple. The main thing with this recipe is just getting your oil to the right temperature and not overmixing the batter. Get those right and you’re golden, literally!
I find that using a thermometer to check the oil temperature is the most accurate and will ensure you never end up with raw or oil-logged batter. So if you find yourself deep frying on a regular basis, I really recommend getting this thermometer.
Ok, now with all that out the way, grab your ingredients because it’s time to fry some jalapenos!
Step 1: Preheat the Oil
As always with fried foods, you want to start by preheating the oil. For this recipe, you want it on medium-high, or 350°F (180ºC) if you’re using a thermometer or a fryer.
Now, while the oil is heating up, you can get on with making the batter.
Step 2: Make the Batter
Start by combining the dry ingredients - that’s the flour, garlic, paprika, and salt and pepper - in a large bowl and set aside.
Then, after that, mix the beer and the eggs together. And, now, - you guessed it - it’s time to combine the two.
With that said, when mixing the wet into the dry, I recommend using a whisk. And be careful not to overmix as that’ll make the batter tough and chewy. You want to let the beer bubbles shine here!
Step 3: Frying Time
Now, in small batches - so you don’t lower the oil temperature - dip the sliced jalapenos in the batter, shake off the excess, and drop them in the oil.
They should fry up in about 5-6 minutes, but as long as they’re golden, you’re good to go.
Step 4: Drain and Serve
After they’ve come out of the oil, pop your fried jalapenos on some paper towels to drain any excess oil.
Then, serve by themselves or with the dipping sauce of your choice and enjoy!
By the way, for a dipping sauce, I love using the sauce from our fried mahi mahi recipe.
How to Store & Reheat Fried Jalapenos
Ok, let’s be honest, you probably won’t have any leftovers. But in the unusual case that you do, you can keep them in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Just make sure that they have cooled completely before putting the fried jalapeno buttons in the fridge.
Then, there are a few different ways to heat them up and retain their delightful crunchy texture.
Wrapping It Up
Well, that is how to make fried jalapenos with just a couple of ingredients and in only 15 minutes!
Even if you’re a bit afraid of spice, you’re going to love these. They’re tangy, spicy, crunchy, and oh so delicious.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy making this fried jalapenos recipe as much as we do at our house.
