The Best Texas Roadhouse Country Fried Chicken
Texas Roadhouse's country fried chicken is one of those dishes that may seem impossible to replicate at home. Yet, out of all the copycat Texas Roadhouse recipes I've done, this one might be the easiest.
Seriously, the results of this recipe make it seem like it's an extensive process to put together, but the truth of the matter is that it only takes about 10 minutes to prepare. Then, the rest of the time is just baking the chicken in the oven!
For what it's worth though, you can also pan fry - or deep fry - this country-fried chicken recipe if you want to. We just like to bake it when we make it to keep the cleanup as easy as possible.
Honestly, however you cook it, it will turn out super crispy. Just as crispy as the old fashioned Texas Roadhouse country fried chicken.
Now, while this dish is amazing all by itself, it's even better served with some sides. And speaking of sides, I love making more comfort food deliciousness to go along with it, like these Texas Roadhouse rolls and cinnamon butter and these Texas Roadhouse green beans. They are the perfect complement to this chicken and gravy for the full restaurant experience.

The ingredient list for this Texas Roadhouse country fried chicken could not be simpler. In fact, I can almost guarantee you have pretty much everything you need at home already!
Anyway, here's what you'll for the breaded chicken:
- 2 chicken breasts
- ½ cup butter

See, you just can't beat a simple ingredients list like this one!
And the best part is once you stock up on these ingredients, you can make a ton of my other favorite comfort food recipes with them - like these Italian chicken cutlets, this Olive Garden chicken alfredo, and this fried mahi mahi.
How To Make Texas Roadhouse Country Fried Chicken
Alright, so as I already mentioned, making this Texas Roadhouse country fried chicken is an easy 5 step process.
From start to finish it will take about 45 minutes in total, but almost all of that is cook time. There's actually only about 10 minutes of hands-on cooking with this recipe.
Also, just so you know ahead of time, this recipe will make two hearty servings of chicken. So, if you're planning on serving it for a family dinner, just adjust the ingredient measurements accordingly.
Now, let's stop wasting time and make some country fried chicken!
Step 1: Prepare The Chicken
First things first, preheat the oven to 430°F (220°C).
Next, you'll want to butterfly your chicken breasts. So, to do this, carefully use a knife to slice across the chicken breast length-wise.
Alternatively, you can place the chicken in a Ziplock bag and flatten it with a mallet or rolling pin. You'll want to beat the chicken until it's nice and thin and make sure that both pieces are even in thickness. Doing so will ensure that it cooks evenly.
Step 2: Bread The Chicken
Next, melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl. I recommend heating it in 15-second increments so it doesn't pop and make a mess in your microwave.
Then, season the chicken with salt and pepper and coat each breast of chicken with the melted butter. Once it's well-seasoned, set it aside.
Now, in a large bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, a good pinch of salt, parsley, garlic powder, and flour. Mix everything until it's well combined. Then, coat each of the chicken breasts thoroughly with the panko breadcrumbs mixture.
Step 3: Bake The Chicken
After you coat the chicken in the breadcrumbs, place it on a wire rack on top of a baking sheet. Also, you'll want to make sure you use the wire rack baking sheet set up so the chicken can get nice and crispy on both sides.
Next, put the baking sheet in the oven and bake the chicken for about 35 minutes. You'll know it's done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
Step 4: Make The Gravy
So, while the chicken is cooking, you can make the gravy.
To do this, put a saucepan on the stovetop over medium heat and melt the butter in it. Then, add the garlic paste, and cook it with the butter until fragrant.
Next, add the flour to the saucepan, and cook for an additional minute. Then, add the chicken stock and stir well to combine everything.
Now gradually pour in the milk - stirring the gravy as you add it - and finish it off with a pinch of black pepper. Cook the gravy for a few minutes until it has slightly thickened.
Step 5: Serve
While you're waiting for the chicken to finish baking, you can keep the gravy warm over low heat.
Then, finally, once the chicken is baked to crispy golden perfection, put it on a plate and top it with as much warm gravy on top as you want, and enjoy!
How To Store Country Fried Chicken
As I mentioned earlier, this recipe for country fried chicken will make two hearty servings. But, it's definitely a good idea to make some extra because - believe it or not - this country fried chicken makes for excellent leftovers.
Oh, and speaking of leftovers, you can store your leftover country fried chicken in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Just make sure to store the gravy in a separate airtight container so your chicken stays crisp. Stored like this the gravy will keep in the fridge for up to 4 days as well.
How To Reheat Country Fried Chicken
So, to reheat your chicken, I recommend using the oven. Also, I recommend warming it up the same way you cooked it - on a wire rack on top of a baking sheet.
With that said, though, I recommend warming the chicken up at 350°F instead of 430°F - the temp you cooked the chicken at.
Alternatively, you can bake your chicken fried steak in the air fryer set to 400°F for about 5 minutes or until warmed.
As for the gravy, you can reheat it in the microwave in 10-second increments, stirring between each one until it reaches your desired temperature. Or, you can reheat it in a saucepan on the stovetop over medium-low heat, stirring frequently so it warms evenly.
