The Best Crack Chicken Noodle Soup

There's nothing better than a homemade soup recipe, and this crack chicken noodle soup might be the best one you'll ever make. Seriously, once you try this crack chicken noodle soup, you might never want to make another kind of soup again!

Ok, that might've been a bit of an exaggeration, but trust me when I tell you it's super easy to get hooked on making this stuff. Honestly, we've made it 3 times this month, and the month is not even halfway over yet.

Hype aside, this crack chicken noodle soup reminds me of my grandma's classic chicken noodle soup recipe, but with a flavorful twist that is literally addictive. Seriously, it has everything you'd want in chicken soup, with the addition of a few ingredients that make the broth slightly creamy and takes the overall flavor up a notch.

It's kind of like this crack chicken casserole in soup form. So, if you've ever tried that recipe, then you know how good this soup is about to be.

Now, another reason I love this crack chicken noodle soup recipe is that it's so simple to make. You basically just add all of the ingredients into a pot, let 'em cook to perfection, and serve. Yup, this recipe is seriously that simple!

By the way, if you're feeling a little extra, you can make this Little Caesar's crazy bread to go along with the soup. It's incredible dipped in the flavorful broth, and I almost always make the two together.

    Ingredients

As I mentioned just a second ago, the ingredients you'll need to make this crack soup are almost all of the same ones you'd make traditional chicken noodle soup with - plus a few additions. And, honestly, they're all common kitchen and pantry finds, so you might even have most - if not all - of them on hand already!

Anyway, here's what you'll need to make this crack chicken noodle soup recipe:

    • 1 tbsp. olive oil
    • 2 celery stalks, chopped
    • 2 carrots, chopped
    • 2 tbsp. ranch seasoning mix
    • 2 cups chicken, cooked
    • 8 oz. dried egg noodles
    • 1 can cheddar cheese soup (or any condensed soup)
    • 4 cups chicken broth
    • ½ cup milk
    • Salt and pepper
    • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
    • ¼ cup bacon bits

    Pretty simple stuff, right?

And if you have these ingredients, then you almost have everything you need to make this crack chicken pasta, crack dip, and crack chicken chili, so you'll definitely want to check that out next!

    Ingredient Substitutions and Suggestions

This crack chicken noodle soup recipe really is so good when it's made with the ingredients above, and it's meant to make homemade cooking so convenient. With that said though, if you'd like to substitute some of the ingredients with others I have some suggestions on how you might go about doing that.

So, as far as the cooked chicken goes, I recommend using a store-bought rotisserie chicken to make the soup with. It's the most convenient - and typically cheapest - option out there. However, if you have some leftover chicken breasts from a meal you made earlier in the week, those will work great too. Either way, you should end up with some tender and flavorful chicken noodle soup.

Another thing this recipe calls for is a can of cheddar cheese soup, but if you're in a pinch you can substitute it with cream of chicken soup or cream of mushroom soup. If you do go this route though I recommend doubling up on the cheddar cheese and using two cups of it instead of one.

Speaking of cheese, I love using sharp cheddar cheese to add even more cheesiness to this soup. With that said though, any shredded cheese - like mozzarella or pepper jack - will work great too.

Lastly, for the noodles, I like using fine egg noodles to make my crack chicken noodle soup, but honestly thin spaghetti noodles or angel hair pasta can work too.

How to Make Crack Chicken Noodle Soup

As I mentioned earlier, this crack chicken noodle soup recipe is quite easy to make.

Essentially, you just have to add the ingredients to the same pot at different times and let them cook.

Sounds easy enough, right? Well, that's because it is.

Anyway, let's not waste any more time and get cooking!

A dutch oven with chopped carrots and celery cooking in oil.

    Step 1: Cook the Veggies

First things first, heat a Dutch oven - or large pot - over medium heat on the stovetop and add the olive oil to it.

Then, once the oil is heated, you'll want to add the celery, carrots, and ranch seasoning mix to the pot and let everything cook for about 5 minutes. Also, just keep in mind that while the veggies are cooking you'll want to give 'em a stir every now and then - just so that they cook evenly.

Step 2: Add the Chicken and Broth

Once the veggies are tender, you can add the cooked rotisserie chicken, cheddar cheese soup, chicken broth, milk of your choice, salt, and pepper. Then, you can give the soup a quick mix, bring it up to a boil, and simmer it for about 20 minutes - or until the veggies soften.

Step 3: Add The Pasta And Cheese & Serve

So, now that the veggies are soft you'll want to add the noodles and the cheese into the soup and cook 'em for about 5 minutes - or until the noodles are al dente.

Then, once the noodles are good to go you can serve this crack chicken soup up in some bowls, and top it with some chopped bacon bits and more cheddar cheese. Enjoy!

How to Store Crack Chicken Noodle Soup

This recipe for crack chicken noodle soup makes 4 servings, and since it's the best chicken soup, I doubt you'll have leftovers.

However, if you end up with some leftover, you can store your cooled crack chicken noodle soup in an airtight container and it will last in the fridge for 3-4 days.

By the way, if you want to store the soup for even longer, you can store it in an airtight container - or freezer-safe bag - in the freezer for about 3 months.

How to Reheat Crack Chicken Noodle Soup

Once you're ready to eat this delicious soup again, you can put it back in a large pot over medium heat and warm it up for about 5 minutes - or until it reaches your desired temperature.

Alternatively, if you're reheating just a bowl of soup, you can reheat it in 30 second intervals in the microwave. Usually it takes less than 2 minutes to get it hot in there.

    Wrapping it Up

Well, that's how to make crack chicken noodle soup in just a few simple steps!

This really isn't your typical chicken noodle soup recipe, it's so much better. From the flavorful, creamy broth to the meaty chunks of chicken and perfectly cooked noodles, homemade soup doesn't get better than this. Atleast I don't think it does.

Also, since it's so easy to make, it really is the perfect cozy meal for chilly weekends or busy weeknights. And, honestly, everyone in the fam sure to love it.

Anyway, I hope you like this crack chicken noodle soup as much as my family and I do.

As always, if you give it a try, leave a comment below to let me know how it went.
