    The Best Beef Fried Rice

If you're looking for the perfect fried ricez, then look no further!

This simple beef fried rice recipe makes for a savory and satisfying rice dish that's loaded with classic Asian flavors. From the homemade stir-fry sauce to the blend of veggies and juicy steak, it's just addictive. Honestly, I think it's even better than the fried rice you can order at a Chinese restaurant!

Now, with all of that said, my favorite part about this homemade beef fried rice recipe has got to be how quick and easy it is to make. You basically just add all of the ingredients to the same wok at different times and cook everything to perfection.

Plus, this entire process of making this fried rice recipe is pretty much all passive cooking. The only thing you really have to do to make this stuff is give everything a mix every once and a while. This just will make sure all of the ingredients cook evenly. Besides that though, the wok really does all the hard work - aka the cooking.

Seriously, making Chinese fried rice doesn't get any easier than this.

By the way, if you love making fried rice, then you'll definitely want to give this hibachi fried rice or this Benihana fried rice recipe a try next!

    Ingredients

As I mentioned above, the ingredient list is super simple. In fact, you probably have most - if not all - of the ingredients in your pantry and refrigerating waiting for you already!

Anyway, here's exactly what you'll need to make this beef fried rice:

    • 2 tbsp. dark soy sauce
    • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
    • 1 tbsp. oyster sauce
    • ½ tsp. toasted sesame oil
    • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
    • 8 oz. sirloin steak cut into ¼th inch strips
    • ½ cup onion, diced
    • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
    • 2 large eggs lightly beaten
    • 3 cups cooked and cooled rice
    • Thinly sliced green onions, for garnish

    Pretty simple stuff, right?

An assortment of ingredients including bowls of raw beef, carrots, peas, scallions, beaten eggs, onion, rice, and various sauces.

    Ingredient Suggestions and Substitutions

Now, I always make this recipe with the ingredients listed above, but with that said, you can make some substitutions, and it'll be just as delicious.

So, when it comes to soy sauce, I recommend using both regular and dark soy sauce. The reason is that dark soy sauce has a more caramelized flavor, which adds complexity to this dish and gives it a more authentic fried rice flavor. However, if you only have regular soy sauce on hand you can totally just use more of that in place of the dark stuff.

Now, as far as the beef goes, I like to use sirloin steak to make my beef fried rice, but flank steak will work just as well. Also, if you're in a real pinch, and only have ground beef on hand, that will work too.

As for the vegetables, I like to keep it simple and go with a combination of onions, peas, and carrots, but you pretty much use any cooked veggies you want! Oh, and to make this recipe more like a stir fry, you can add broccoli, cauliflower, and bell peppers to it as well.

Lastly, when it comes to the rice, I like using leftover rice so it can attain a crisp texture during the cooking process. Both leftover white rice and brown rice will work great to make this fried rice recipe. So, feel free to use whichever one you want.

How To Make Beef Fried Rice

As I mentioned before, it really is super simple to make this steak fried rice recipe.

You basically cook the beef, then the vegetables, then the eggs, then mix everything together with the rice and the sauce, and serve it.

That's really all there is to it!

Anyway, let's stop wasting time and make some beef fried rice!

A black skillet filled with cooked beef and a wooden spoon in the skillet.

    Step 1: Cook The Beef

First, you'll want to make the sauce so it's ready for later. To do this, combine all of your sauce ingredients - the dark soy sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil - in a medium bowl and set it aside.

Now, to cook the sirloin steak - or flank steak - you'll want to coat a wok - or large skillet - with some sesame oil and heat it over medium heat. Then, while that's warming up, you can cut the steak into strips - if you haven't done so already - and add it to the hot wok.

Finally, you'll want to sear the steak on both sides for a few minutes until it browns, and then you can set it aside for later.

A black skillet with onions, peas and carrot separated out in the skillet. There is a wooden spoon in the skillet.

    Step 2: Cook The Veggies

Now, once the steak is cooked, you'll want to add the onion, frozen peas, and carrots to the hot wok that you just cooked the steak in. Then, you'll want to let the veggies cook until they've browned. Also, you'll want to be sure to mix them well as they're cooking so they cook evenly.

Finally, when they're well cooked you can transfer them to a plate with your cooked steak.

A black skillet with scrambled eggs and a plastic spatula in the skillet. Next to the skillet is a pair of chopsticks, a bowl of white rice and a bowl of a brown sauce mixture with a spoon in the bowl.

    Step 3: Cook The Eggs

Next up, it's time to make the fried eggs that make fried rice so good.

So, to cook the eggs, you'll want to whisk together the yolks with the whites, then you'll want to add them to the wok, and continually move them around as they cook.

Then, once they're cooked you can set the fried eggs aside for later.

A black skillet filled with white rice, beef, peas, and carrots.

Step 4: Finishing The Fried Rice

So, now that all of the elements of your fried rice are cooked, it's time to bring everything together.

First, add the cooked white rice - or brown rice - to the wok along with the sauce that you prepared earlier and let it cook for a minute. Then, add the steak, veggies, and egg back to the wok and give everything a good mix.

Finally, serve this delicious beef fried rice warm with some green onions on top, and enjoy!

How To Store Beef Fried Rice

This recipe for beef fried rice makes 2 large servings. So, if you want leftovers, I definitely recommend you make a double or triple batch.

Speaking of leftovers, you can store your leftover beef fried rice in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Alternatively, if you want to store your leftover fried rice for even longer you can freeze it for up to 3 months.

How To Reheat Beef Fried Rice

Now, the best way to reheat leftover fried rice is by using the stovetop.

To reheat, simply add everything back to a wok or skillet with a few tablespoons of water and heat it over medium heat. Then warm the rice up for a few minutes, constantly stirring everything around the pan, so it reheats evenly.

    Wrapping It Up

Well, that's how to make beef fried rice!

I know I'm biased, but I think this is one of the best fried rice recipes ever!

Seriously, the combination of flavors in this recipe is out-of-this-world good, and it's so easy to make too.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this beef fried rice as much as my family and I do. As always, if you give it a try, be sure to leave a comment and tell me how it went.
