The Best Spicy Margarite Recipe
This easy and delicious spicy margarita recipe takes only 15 minutes to prepare with a handful of ingredients - and it's absolutely delicious.
Seriously, once you try it, you'll be reaching for your second shot in no time!
I love classic cocktails with a twist, like this espresso martini, and this jalapeño margarita checks all the boxes. It's refreshingly tart and sweet, and it has just the right amount of heat. But, of course, you can easily adjust the spice level if you aren't a big fan of the spiciness.
It's quickly become one of my favorite cocktail recipes and is an absolute must-have at your next cocktail party or taco night - preferably alongside these addictive birria tacos!
Ingredients
For this spicy jalapeno margarita recipe, you'll need the same ingredients as a regular margarita, plus some jalapeño slices.
With that said, if you're a cocktail lover, you probably have all of these in your liquor cabinet already. But, no worries if you don't. These are all pretty easy to find at any grocery and liquor store!
Anyway, here's everything you'll need to make a spicy margarita:
- 2 Jalapeño Pepper Slices
- 2 oz. Tequila
- 1 oz. Orange Liqueur
- 1 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
- ½ oz. Agave Syrup
- 2 cups Ice
And for the garnish:
- 1 Lime Wedge
- 2 Jalapeño slices
- Salt
Pretty simple, right?
And you can use the tequila to make this ranch water, so you can make that too after you have one of these spicy margaritas!
Ingredient Modifications and Substitutions
So, fresh jalapenos are definitely the secret to these spicy margaritas. They bring some heat plus a nice grassy flavor that pairs perfectly with the taste of the margarita.
Just so you know though, if you want to tame the heat - or turn it up - you can adjust the number of jalapeno slices or remove the seeds to take away most of the heat while keeping the flavor.
As for the tequila, you can use any brand of tequila you like. I do recommend silver tequila (also known as Blanco tequila), which is what I used here it always seems to make the best margaritas.
With that said, golden tequila will work great for these margaritas too. It'll just taste a little different than the Blanco tequila version I'm making.
By the way, if you want a lighter drink, you can reduce the amount of tequila by half and your spicy margarita will still be just as delicious.
Oh, and just so you know, you can use a lot of these ingredients to make these Mexican candy shots too. So you'll definitely want to check that recipe out next if you have some leftover ingredients.
How To Make Spicy Margaritas
So, this spicy jalapeño margarita recipe makes enough for 1 serving. But you can easily double or triple the ingredients for more shots!
With that said, be careful not to overfill your cocktail shaker - small shakers can typically only make one shot at a time.
Anyway, now let's dive right into the steps to make this amazing jalapeño margarita!
Step 1: Prep the Jalapeños
So, if you're starting with whole jalapeños, the first step is to slice them up.
Then, after those are sliced, you can grab your cocktail shaker and add the jalapeño slices to it. Next, use a muddler to press out the jalapeno juice. You can also use a pestle - or the handle of a wooden spoon - if you don't have a muddler.
Step 2: Mix the Ingredients
Now, to the cocktail shaker with jalapeno juice, pour in the Blanco tequila, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and agave syrup.
Close the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds to combine all of the ingredients.
Step 3: Salt The Rim
Now the fun part of making spicy margarita - preparing the margarita glass!
So, to do that, you'll want to soak the rim of the glass in some freshly squeezed lime juice. Then, fill a small plate with kosher salt, and dip the lime juice soaked rim into it to coat it with a thin layer of salt.
Step 4: Serving
Finally, it's time to serve your spicy margarita! Fill the margarita glass with fresh ice and pour the prepared margarita on top of the ice.
Then, garnish it with a lime wedge and additional jalapeño slices on top to taste.
Now, serve your delicious drink and enjoy. Cheer!
