The Best Sous Vide Chicken Thighs
So you probably know by now I've developed a bit of an obsession with sous vide recipes. And let me tell you, it doesn't get much better - or more decadent - than these sous vide chicken thighs!
This recipe uses the sous vide cooking method to make the juiciest and most tender chicken thighs ever. Then the chicken thighs are coated in a richly sweet and savory orange sauce and baked to perfection.
What's even better than how they taste is how easy they are to make. You basically just toss 'em into your sous vide bag with some herbs and garlic and then let the sous vide machine do its thing while you sit back and relax. Then when they're done, you just coat the cooked chicken thighs in the homemade glaze and pop 'em in the oven.
It's really that simple - about as simple as my sous vid halibut!
By the way, if you're wondering what to eat with these chicken thighs, a few of my favorite recipes to pair with them are this loaded baked potato casserole, these sous vide mashed potatoes, or these crack green beans.
Ingredients
For how much flavor these chicken thighs have, they're actually made with just a handful of simple ingredients. In fact, you might already have most of them on hand already!
Anyway, here's what you'll need for the chicken thighs:
- 5-6 chicken thighs
- salt and pepper
- 1 garlic clove, sliced
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- Fresh parsley
And for the flavorful homemade sauce:
- ½ cup orange marmalade
- 2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp. Dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp. orange juice
How simple is that?!
Now, this recipe calls for fresh boneless chicken thighs, but if you only have frozen chicken thighs, then you can still sous vide them. Just keep in mind it will take about an extra hour to sous vide frozen chicken thighs.
Oh, and if you're looking for another easy chicken recipe, then I definitely recommend checking out this orange chicken next. It's made with many of the same ingredients as this chicken thighs recipe, but the chicken is fried instead.
How To Make Sous Vide Chicken Thighs
Ok, now that we have all that covered, it's time to make some sous vide chicken thighs!
This is seriously one of the easiest sous vide dinner recipes you can make, and even if you're new to sous vide cooking, I guarantee the chicken will turn out perfect.
So with that said, let's stop wasting time and get cooking!
Step 1: Prepare The Chicken Thighs
First, you'll want to begin by seasoning the chicken thighs on all sides with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
Next, you can place the seasoned chicken thighs in the sous vide bag along with the garlic clove and parsley. Then you'll want to remove the air from the bag using a vacuum sealer.
Step 2: Sous Vide The Chicken
Once you've prepared your chicken thighs, you can place the bag and sous vide runner in a pot or large container of water and set it at 140°F for 4 hours.
Then as soon as the 4 hours are up, you can preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C), and you'll want to remove the chicken thighs from the bag and pat them dry with kitchen towels.
Step 3: Glaze And Bake The Chicken
Up next, you're going to make the glaze. To do this, combine all of the glaze ingredients - that would be the orange marmalade, balsamic vinegar, dijon mustard, and orange juice - in a small bowl and mix until everything is well combined.
Then, you'll want to brush the chicken thighs with the glaze and place them on a prepared baking sheet line with parchment paper. Now you can put the chicken thighs in the oven and bake them for 12 minutes or until they're cooked to caramelized perfection, and the skin is nice and crispy.
Lastly, you can serve your finished sous vide chicken thighs with some fresh parsley.
Enjoy!
How To Store Sous Vide Chicken Thighs
This recipe for sous vide chicken thighs makes 4 servings, so it should be perfect for a big family dinner, and if you're lucky, you might even have some leftovers.
Speaking of leftovers, you can store the cooked chicken thighs in an airtight container in the fridge for about 3-4 days.
Alternatively, if you want your sous vide chicken thighs to last longer, you can freeze them either in an airtight container or in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
How To Reheat Sous Vide Chicken Thighs
When you're ready to enjoy your sous vide chicken thighs again, they're pretty good cold but even better warmed up.
The best way to reheat sous vide chicken thighs is to bake them in the oven at 400°F for about 10-15 minutes - or until they're warmed through.
Alternatively, if you're just trying to reheat a single serving, then you can microwave the chicken thighs in 20-second intervals until fully reheated.
