    The Best Lamb Chops Recipe

If you're looking for a simple yet sophisticated recipe to impress your dinner guests with, then look no further than these pan seared lamb chops!

These lamb chops are as flavorful as it gets, and they're sure to make you look like the ultimate home cook. The combination of the lamb with the garlic, butter, salt, pepper, and fresh herbs creates a depth of flavor like no other. Then, the lamb gets pan seared until it has a crisp crust and a tender, meaty, super juicy middle.

Gah, it's just so good! I know I'm biased, but I think this is by far the best way to cook lamb.

Plus, in addition to tasting incredible, these lamb chops couldn't be easier to make. All you have to do is sear each lamb chop to get that signature caramelized coating, then coat 'em in garlic butter and let them cook until medium rare. As I mentioned, the whole process, from start to finish, will take you just 15 minutes.

    How great does that sound?!

By the way, since this recipe comes together so quickly, you'll have plenty of time to whip up some tasty sides to go with it, like these stuffed artichokes or these red skin mashed potatoes.

    Ingredients

I know I said this already, but these lamb chops are made with just a couple of basic ingredients. In fact, if you have the lamb chops, I can almost guarantee you have everything else you need to make them at home already!

Anyway, here's what you'll need for this recipe:

    • 4 lamb bone chops, about 1-inch thick
    • Salt and pepper, as needed
    • 2 tbsp salted butter
    • 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
    • 1 tbsp chopped sage or desired herbs (thyme and rosemary pair well with lamb)

An ingredient list doesn't get better than that, right?

By the way, if you end up with extra lamb chops, you can use them to make this lamb vindaloo recipe. It's another delicious and easy lamb recipe, and it's the perfect way to use up your extra lamb meat.

An assortment of ingredients including a plate of raw lamb and bowls of oil, salt, garlic, butter, and a sprig of fresh sage.

    Ingredient Substitutions And Suggestions

Now, I always make this recipe with the exact ingredients listed above, but with that said, there is a ton of wiggle room to modify the ingredients and switch up this recipe.

For instance, when it comes to herbs, I recommend using fresh thyme, fresh rosemary, or fresh sage. If you don't have fresh herbs, then dried herbs will work as well, but keep in mind they'll have a little different flavor.

When it comes to lamb chops, you can use either lamb bone chops, lamb loin chops, or lamb rib chops. The lamb loin chops are going to be slightly leaner than lamb rib chops, so they'll cook more quickly.

    How To Cook Lamb Chops

Again, making these lamb chops is about as easy as it gets. You basically just season the lamb, pan-sear it for a few minutes, then make the garlic butter and finish the lamb in it.

    Pretty simple, right?!

So, with that said, let's stop wasting time and get cooking!

Grey skillet with a wooden handle. The skillet is filled with cooked lamb chops.

Step 1: Cook The Lamb Chops

First, you'll want to take out the lamb chops and season them on each side with as much salt and pepper as you want.

Next, you can grab a large cast iron skillet, put it over medium high heat, and add enough olive oil to it to cover the bottom of the pan.

Now, let the oil heat up for a minute and get hot. Then, when the oil is heated, you can add the lamb chops to the cast iron skillet and cook them for 3-4 minutes on each side. Oh, and make sure you don't overcrowd the pan. The lamb chops should be able to lay flat on the pan so they can get that crisp sear on both sides.

Step 2: Make The Pan Sauce

Once your lamb chops have been seared, you can remove them from the skillet and set them aside. Next, you'll want to add the butter, garlic, and sage to the skillet and cook it for a minute or so until the butter melts and the garlic is nice and fragrant.

Step 3: Finish The Lamb Chops

Finally, to finish up, you can put the very tender meat back into the skillet and coat the lamb chops on both sides with the pan sauce.

Then, you can serve your lamb chops warm with mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, or anything else that you want.

    Enjoy!

How To Store Cooked Lamb Chops

This recipe for pan seared lamb chops makes 2-4 servings, so it should be plenty for a large dinner for two or a normal-sized dinner for four.

If you end up with any leftovers storing them is super easy. Just let the lamb chops cool to room temperature, then transfer them to an airtight container and refrigerate them. Stored this way, you can keep the cooked lamb chops in the fridge for 3-4 days.

By the way, if you want your lamb chops to last for even longer, you can always freeze them in an airtight container - or freezer bag - for up to 3 months.

How To Reheat Cooked Lamb Chops

When you're ready to enjoy your lamb chops again, you'll definitely want to reheat them first.

The best way to reheat lamb chops is in the oven. It's the most fool proof way to keep the lamb meat tender and juicy. So, to reheat it that way, you'll want to preheat your oven to 300°F and let the lamb come to room temperature. Then, drizzle a few tablespoons of stock over it, wrap it loosely in tin foil, place the lamb on a wire rack, and cook it for about 20 minutes or until it's heated through.

For a quicker method, you can put the lamb back in a pan with some oil and heat it over medium heat for a few minutes on each side.
