    The Best Marry Me Chicken

If you're looking for a new chicken recipe, this viral marry me chicken has everything you need. It honestly might be the most flavorful recipe I've ever made with chicken, and that's saying something because I've made a ton of chicken recipes.

This marry me chicken consists of lightly breaded and seasoned chicken breasts that are pan-fried to golden perfection. Then the chicken is coated in a rich, garlicky Italian-style cream sauce with sun dried tomatoes, taking the flavor of this dish to a whole other level of deliciousness.

    Gah, it's just so good!

Seriously, every single bite of this marry me chicken dish is just addictive, but my favorite part about this recipe is how easy it is to make. All you have to do is bread the chicken, sear it in a pan, then add the sauce ingredients and mix them together. That's it!

It's honestly so simple, but it comes out tasting as if it came from a restaurant every single time! In fact, it's so simple that you can easily whip up a side dish to go with it, like this air fryer garlic bread, Italian cheese bread, or these twice baked mashed potatoes. Any of those sides will make this marry me chicken recipe the ultimate comfort food meal.

    Ingredients

Now, let's talk about what goes into the pan to make marry me chicken. Since there's such a depth of flavor in this chicken dish, you might think that it uses complex ingredients. But this recipe actually uses all basic ingredients, and I'm even willing to bet you have some of them at home already!

Anyway, here's what you'll need to make marry me chicken:

    • 2-3 chicken breasts (or 6-8 chicken tenderloins)
    • Salt and pepper
    • 2 tbsp. flour
    • 2 tbsp. olive oil
    • 2 tbsp. butter
    • 1 garlic clove, minced
    • 1 tsp. thyme
    • 1 tsp. red pepper flakes
    • 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
    • ¾ cup chicken broth
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • ½ cup sundried tomatoes
    • ½ cup parmesan cheese, grated
    • Fresh basil

    Pretty simple stuff, right?

By the way, if you love the combination of sun dried tomatoes, parmesan cheese, and chicken, you can use all of those ingredients, plus a few more from this marry me chicken recipe, to make my easy chicken pesto pasta. So, you'll definitely want to check out that recipe next!

A bunch of sliced chicken breasts on a plate, a plate with parmesan cheese on it, a pitcher of brother, a bowl of oil, a pitcher of heavy cream, a bowl of flour, and a bowl of sun dried tomatoes.

    Ingredient Substitutions and Suggestions

Now, I always make this marry me chicken recipe with the exact ingredients listed above because I just think it's perfect that way. However, there are a few ways you can change up this recipe, and it'll turn out just as delicious!

    Add Some Veggies

Marry me chicken is already made with chopped sun dried tomatoes, but you can't go wrong with some added spinach to make classic marry me chicken with spinach. Just stir in the spinach at the end of the recipe, mixing it into the creamy sauce. The spinach will wilt from the heat of the cream mixture and make your chicken even healthier.

Use Milk to Make the Sauce

If you don't have heavy cream on hand, you can use whole milk instead to make the pasta sauce. With that said, you can also use full fat coconut milk as a dairy free alternative to heavy cream. The subtly sweet taste of the coconut milk is surprisingly good with the grated parmesan cheese and minced garlic.

    Serve it on Pasta

I honestly think this marry me chicken is filling enough as is with just the creamy sauce and chicken, but you can also serve it with pasta to make it even heartier. All that tasty, creamy sauce is amazing poured over spaghetti with perfectly cooked chicken breasts right on top. Just cook up your favorite pasta, or try using spaghetti squash noodles, then toss the pasta with the cooked chicken in the skillet at the end of the cooking process.

How to Make Marry Me Chicken

I know I mentioned it earlier, but I'll say it again - this marry me chicken could not be any easier to make!

The entire recipe for this chicken dish can be made in just 3 simple steps that involve seasoning the chicken, cooking the chicken, and making the sauce. And everything cooks in just one skillet, so the entire process, including the clean-up, is a breeze!

So with that said, let's not waste any more time and get cooking.

Floured pieces of chicken cooking in a skillet.

Step 1: Season the Chicken Breasts

The first thing you'll want to do is dry the boneless skinless chicken breasts (or chicken tenderloins) with a paper towel - this will help your seasonings and flour stick to the chicken.

Next, you can put the chicken on a plate and season it with a little bit of salt and pepper to taste. Then add the flour to a bowl and toss the chicken in the flour until it's fully coated on both sides in a light layer.

    Step 2: Cook The Chicken

Now that the chicken is prepared heat a large skillet or large frying pan over medium heat and a little bit of oil to it to coat the surface. I used olive oil, but avocado oil or any frying oil of your choice will work. Anyway, once the olive oil is hot, add the chicken to the hot skillet and cook evenly for a few minutes on each side until the chicken is lightly golden brown.

Oh, and while the chicken is cooking, you can soak the sun dried tomatoes in hot water for about 10 minutes to make them a little more tender.

Heavy cream and a few more ingredients cooking in a skillet.

Step 3: Make the Creamy Sauce

After the chicken has cooked, you can set it aside for later. Then you'll want to melt the butter in the same skillet that you just cooked the chicken in and add the minced garlic to it, cooking for 1 minute.

Next, you can add the thyme, red pepper flakes, Italian seasonings, chicken broth, heavy cream, parmesan cheese, and sun dried tomatoes to the skillet. Give everything a stir and cook these ingredients for about 12 minutes or until the sauce starts reducing.

Step 4: Finish The Marry Me Chicken

Once the sauce has cooked and reduced a little, add the chicken back to the skillet with the sauce in it and let everything cook for about 10 more minutes.

Finally, serve warm with some fresh basil and more parmesan cheese on top, along with some twice baked mashed potatoes, pasta, or one of those other sides I mentioned earlier. Enjoy!

How to Store Marry Me Chicken

This recipe for marry me chicken makes 4 large servings, so it's really perfect for a big family dinner tonight or to serve for dinner with guests. And if you think you'll need more, you can easily double or triple the recipe!

Then if you have any leftovers, you can store the cooked chicken breasts and sauce in separate airtight containers in the fridge for 3-4 days.

With that said, if you want to keep this marry me chicken for longer, you can freeze the chicken for up to 4 months and freeze the sauce for about 6 months. Just make sure to let both cool completely, then store the chicken in a freezer-safe bag or airtight container, and store the sauce in a separate airtight container.

How to Reheat Marry Me Chicken

Marry me chicken is definitely best when served warm, so luckily, it's really easy to heat up.

For the best reheating method, just add the sauce and chicken back to a skillet and heat over medium heat for a few minutes, stirring every now and then, so the sauce and chicken reheat evenly.

To reheat marry me chicken quickly, just scoop some of the sauce and chicken breasts onto a plate and microwave in 30-second intervals until warm. A little tip about heating up creamy chicken is to add an extra splash of heavy cream or chicken broth to the plate before microwaving - this will prevent the chicken from drying out in the microwave.

Oh, and if you want to reheat the frozen leftovers, I suggest letting them thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.

    Wrapping it Up

This easy chicken recipe is literally the ultimate comfort food that's simple to make, and it comes out perfect every time. For those reasons, it's easily one of my favorite chicken dishes right now, and my family loves it too.

I don't know if it's the perfectly cooked, lightly breaded chicken or the rich and creamy, flavorful sauce, but this marry me chicken is just to die for. Honestly, it's better than anything you'd get from a restaurant!
