The Best Keto Sausage Balls
This keto sausage ball recipe is so good and so simple that you'll want to make it every day!
And that's not an exaggeration.
These cream cheese sausage balls are tender, cheesy, and crispy. And where other keto sausage ball recipes fail to live up to the deliciousness of classic Bisquick ones, this recipe doesn't.
But, I'm not the only one who feels that way, my family and friends do too.
And that's why I truly believe these the most addictive low carb appetizer you can make - and, I'm talking like as addictive as my keto french fries recipe. That's how good they are.
Plus, the carb count is pretty phenomenal on these too. Each one has LESS THAN 1 NET CARB! So you can really indulge in them without guilt.
Ingredients
So, as I mentioned earlier, you will only need 5 ingredients to make these sausage balls keto.
And the ingredients you'll need are all common keto ingredients that you probably have at home already.
That said, here's what you'll need for this recipe:
- 1 pound ground pork sausage
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup almond flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
Nothing better than a short ingredient list, am I right?
And along with only a few ingredients, there are only a few steps to make this recipe.
But before we get into that, let's discuss a few of the ingredients we'll be using.
Oh, and by the way, if you want to make traditional sausage balls, you have to check out these Bisquick sausage balls!
Keto Sausage Balls with flour
So, we will be making these sausage balls keto and low carb by using almond flour in place of all-purpose flour.
And the almond flour will help bind all of our ingredients together to form the keto sausage ball.
But, if you want to substitute almond flour, you can use either sunflower or walnut flower instead. Both of these flours have similar properties to almond flour and can be substituted on a one-for-one basis.
With that said, the flour that you DON'T want to use in this recipe is coconut flour.
Coconut flour is extremely absorbent and will cause the sausage balls to fall apart instead of holding together.
So just keep in mind that you'll only want to use almond, sunflower, or walnut flour for this recipe.
Customizing your Keto sausage balls
Now, one of my favorite parts about this recipe is customizing the sausage balls and changing them up.
I typically use mild Italian sausage for this recipe, but sometimes if I want a little kick, I'll use hot sausage or spicy sausage. Having said that, you can pretty much use any ground sausage you want for this recipe, such as breakfast sausage.
Also, I definitely prefer using sharp cheddar cheese - because I love the strong flavor - but feel free to use any cheese that you'd like to make your keto sausage balls. If you want some serious heat, you can use pepper jack cheese along with the hot sausage.
Love pizza? Use mozzarella cheese and dip them in low carb marinara sauce. Personally, I use RAO's keto-friendly pizza sauce as my go-to marinara sauce.
And if you want taco flavored sausage balls, you can use Mexican or taco cheese.
So as you can see, there are plenty of ways to customize this recipe. And no matter what way you choose, these keto sausage balls will be irresistibly delicious.
Grating your own cheese
Ok, so you know that you can use any cheese you want for this recipe, but let's talk about how to make this recipe as low carb as possible.
I recommend shredding your cheese because this will save you the added carbs that come in pre-shredded cheeses.
Pre-shredded cheeses tend to have added starches that are put in them to prevent the cheese from sticking together. And these starches contain carbs, so to keep your sausage balls as low carb as possible, I recommend shredding your own cheese.
How to Make Keto Sausage Balls
A sausage balls recipe may sound like it'd be challenging to make, but these keto sausage balls are actually super easy to whip up.
Literally, you'll have this delicious low carb appetizer done in under 25 minutes - so let's get rolling.
Step 1: Preparing The Keto Sausage
First things first, you'll want to preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Then you'll want to line a baking sheet with tin foil and grease it with some cooking spray.
Next, put all of the ingredients in a large bowl and mix everything until well combined.
Byt the way, try to mix your ingredients thoroughly - you don't want one ingredient clumped in one area, and you want to make sure the flour is mixed throughout.
Step 2: Forming The Keto Sausage Balls
So, once the ingredients are well combined, you can start forming the sausage balls.
Now, having said that, if you want the sausage balls to be a consistent size, I recommend using a cookie scooper.
But if you don't have one, you can always just use your hands. To form the balls like this just scoop the sausage out with a tablespoon, and roll it with your hands until you get a smooth sausage ball that is approximately 1 inch in size.
Then, all you have to do is repeat the scooping and rolling process for the rest of the sausage mixture, and evenly place them on the baking sheet.
Step 3: Baking the keto sausage balls
Now, once all the sausage balls are formed and on the baking sheet, you'll want to put them in the oven for about 20-24 minutes.
However, after the 10 minute mark, you'll want to use a fork to lift the sausage balls off the sheet just to keep them from sticking to it.
Then, after they've cooked for another 10-15ish minutes they should be perfectly crispy on the outside, and perfectly juicy on the inside.
How To Store Keto Sausage Balls
This recipe will make around 24 total sausage balls, so there's a good chance you'll have some leftover after you make them. And, if you do, you can store the leftover sausage balls in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days.
Then, to reheat them, all you have to do is put them back in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or until they reach your desired temperature.
Also, you can pop them in the microwave for a quicker reheating method, but I definitely suggest using the oven so the sausage balls stay as crispyas possible.
Of course, you can also enjoy these keto sausage balls cold if you just want a quick snack.
By the way, if you want to prepare this recipe ahead of time, you can make the keto sausage balls and then freeze them for up to 4 months. That said, they are best cooked within the first month.
To do this, first put them in the freezer on a baking sheet and once they're frozen, you can transfer them to a freezer-safe Ziploc bag. When you're ready to bake them, let them thaw for 15-20 minutes and then follow the baking instructions above.

I’m a huge fan of the traditional Recipe, so I was skeptical. We just made your Keto version, AMAZING!! Thank you so much for the recipe!
We whipped up a Dijon/sour cream/chive dip that complimented the balls perfectly.

These are very good. Very close to the non-keto version made w Bisquick. These are less fluffy but the flavor is all there. My husband said he likes these better! I am going to make a batch for Super Bowl. Thanks!
