This keto cream cheese frosting is thick, creamy, and has just a touch of sweetness. And it holds its shape incredibly well, making it the perfect frosting for a variety of keto desserts. Plus, you only need 4 ingredients, and it takes under 5 minutes to make! So, as far as easy keto cream cheese frosting recipes go, this has got to take the cake - the cupcake that is. Oh, and it has 0 NET CARBS per serving too!
The Best Keto Cream Cheese Frosting
If you're looking for a versatile frosting to complete your keto dessert, this cream cheese frosting has you covered.
In fact, this frosting is so tasty you might find yourself eating it with a spoon.
And that's totally okay, because I've done it a few times myself.
Actually, I've done it a lot!
The perfect pair for this frosting is topping off these keto cupcakes with it- a soft and cakey vanilla cupcake with cream cheese frosting on top...I must be dreaming.
Now, what's great about this sugar-free frosting is has 0 NET CARBS, so you can pretty much use as much as you want, whenever you want, and keep yourself in ketosis.
Plus, as I mentioned earlier, it takes only about five minutes to make.
So, if you need a topping for any keto dessert, you can have this frosting on them in no time.
Keto cream cheese frosting ingredients
4 simple keto friendly ingredients are all you need to make this keto frosting.
And there's a good chance you have all of them at home already!
That said, here's what you'll need:
- ½ cup softened cream cheese
- 3 Tbsps. softened butter
- ½ cup confectioners Swerve
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Now, for the cream cheese make sure you use the block cream cheese and not the "spreadable" kind. If you use the "spreadable" one the consistency will be off with your frosting.
Also, it needs to be at room temperature before mixing too. Otherwise, you'll have a hard time mixing/combining it into the other ingredients.
By the way, if you are using this frosting for a cake, you'll want to make a bigger batch to ensure you have enough to spread on a thick layer of frosting.
Simply double or triple the amount of each ingredient, and you'll be good to go.
Keto Friendly Sugar Substitutes
So, for our cream cheese frosting, we will want to add a touch of sweetness without adding any sugar or carbs. To do this, I used confectioners Swerve.
I like to use Swerve because it measures on a 1:1 ratio with regular sugar, and it has the same amount of sweetness as sugar.
And best of all, it has 0 calories, and therefore 0 grams of sugar and carbs.
Another sweetener you could use is Lakantos Monk Fruit Sweetener.
You can either use the powdered, which is the same as the confectioners Swerve, or the classic white.
If you use the classic white though, you'll want to blend it down into a powder before using it. Basically, you'll make it into confectioners style instead of granulated.
So these are my go-to suggestions.
Don't Use Stevia To Sweeten This Frosting
If you're wondering if you can use Stevia, I DO NOT suggest using it.
Most stevia blends are not actually a 1:1 substitute with sugar-they're either way sweeter-or actually blended with sugar.
Also, the ingredients typically consist of dextrose, maltodextrin, maltodextrose, etc., and those are all just other words for sugar.
So, just keep that in mind when you're thinking about what to sweeten your frosting with.
How to Make the Best Keto Cream Cheese Frosting
This is probably the easiest keto recipe that you're ever going to make.
And since it's so simple, it's the perfect recipe for when you're enjoying a dessert and feel like adding a little something extra to it.
Making the Frosting
Now, the first thing you'll want to do to make the frosting is measure out your ingredients and get out a large mixing bowl.
Then, using either a hand mixer or stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat together the butter and cream cheese.
After those two ingredients have combined, slowly blend in the confectioners Swerve. and vanilla extract, and beat on high for a minute or two.
And you'll know it's done when the mixture turns into a smooth and creamy frosting.
Ways to Use Keto Cream Cheese Frosting
There are multiple ways to use this keto cream cheese frosting.
But, my favorite way is putting it on these keto vanilla cupcakes. The creamy frosting blends so well with the fluffy vanilla cupcakes. Gah, it's so good.
However, it also goes fantastic on this keto pound cake recipe too.
I recommend getting creative with it though, and trying it on literally any keto dessert.
You'd be surprised how good it is on a dessert you wouldn't have thought to put it on!
Putting The Frosting on Your Dessert
The great thing about this frosting is it maintains its shape super well, which is why it is perfect for keto cupcakes.
To get the traditional swirl topping, you'll want to use a piping bag.
That said, if you don't have a piping bag, you can easily make one.
All you have to do is pour your frosting into the corner of a ziploc bag.
Then, twist the bag in half to squeeze all the frosting into that side of the bag.
And, finally, cut a tiny piece off of the tip of the corner where the icing is, and you've got yourself a piping bag.
Oh, and if you are putting this frosting on a cake or other desserts, you can just spread it on with a knife, or an icing spatula if you've got one.
How to Store Keto Cream Cheese Frosting
After you make the frosting, it can sit at room temperature for up to 8 hours before needing to be refrigerated.
To refrigerate, transfer the frosting to an airtight container, where it will last in the fridge for up to 3 days.
If you put the frosting on a dessert, you'll want to keep the dessert in the refrigerator.
Then, before serving, take the dessert out of the fridge for an hour or two, so it has time to come to room temperature.
However, if you make too much to use in 3 days, you can freeze the frosting for up to 1 month. Then, when you want to use it, let it thaw in the refrigerator for a day, and bring it up to room temperature by letting it rest on the counter right before you want to use it.

As I mentioned earlier, my favorite way to use this keto cream cheese frosting is by putting it on these keto vanilla cupcakes.
