The Best Sous Vide Ribs
If you love BBQ ribs, just wait until you try this sous vide recipe! It's the easiest way to make ribs at home, and they turn out incredible every single time.
The sous vide ribs are so tender and juicy, yet they have this irresistible caramelized crust from the baked-in BBQ sauce that's just so good.
And along with being perfectly cooked and delicious, these sous vide baby back ribs are also really easy to make. You basically just slather up the ribs in your favorite BBQ sauce, let the sous vide process do its thing, then bake the ribs in more sauce to give them that traditional barbecue texture and flavor.
Sounds pretty great, right?
Now, since most of the time spent making these delicious ribs is letting them cook in the sous vide, you'll have plenty of time to make a side dish - or two - to serve with them. If you're wondering what to serve with baby back ribs, two of my favorite recipes are this twice baked potato casserole and this Martha White cornbread for the ultimate Southern comfort food meal.
Ingredients
Another thing I love about this recipe is that you only need 4 ingredients to make it! You honestly won't believe how much flavor these sous vide pork ribs have for how few ingredients you need.
Anyway, here are all of the sous vide ribs ingredients:
- 1 Rack Baby Back Ribs
- 1 tsp. Liquid Smoke
- ½ cup BBQ sauce
- Salt to taste
Not bad, right?!
Now, I love using liquid smoke to give the ribs that classic smoked barbecue flavor. And I also use it in some more recipes, like this smoked tuna dip, so you'll definitely want to pick some up if you don't have it already!
Oh, and if you're looking to spice up anything in this recipe, I usually keep adding ingredients to a minimum since the ribs are pretty flavorful already. But with that said, you could add a little garlic powder or brown sugar to the barbecue sauce before sous vide cooking the ribs.
How To Make Sous Vide Ribs
Now it's time for the fun part - making sous vide ribs!
And trust me when I say cooking sous vide ribs are by far the easiest way to cook ribs at home. I mean, you barely have to lift a finger, and the ribs turn out wonderfully tender and flavorful every time.
Anyway, let's not waste another second and make some sous vide barbecue ribs!
Step 1: Sous Vide The Ribs
First things first, you'll want to set the sous vide machine to 165°F.
Then you can mix the BBQ sauce, liquid smoke, and salt in a bowl and brush the baby back ribs with the BBQ sauce mixture.
Next, you'll want to place the ribs in the sous vide bag and remove the excess air using a vacuum sealer. Then you can drop the bag in a water bath with your sous vide machine and let the ribs cook at 165°F for 10 hours.
Step 2: Bake The Ribs
When the ribs are almost done cooking in the sous vide, you can preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Once the ribs are done cooking, you can remove the cooked ribs from the bag, pat them dry with paper towels, and then cover them with more BBQ sauce.
Then you'll want to put the ribs on the prepared baking sheet and pop them in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until the BBQ sauce is caramelized and nicely browned.
Step 3: Serve The Ribs
Finally, after the ribs are done baking, you can serve them warm with extra barbecue sauce, if desired, along with any side of your choice.
Enjoy!
How To Store Sous Vide Ribs
This recipe for sous vide ribs makes 4-6 servings, so it's perfect for a big family dinner or cookout. And if you're lucky, you might even end up with leftovers!
Speaking of leftovers, if you end up with any, you can store your ribs in an airtight container and keep them in the fridge for 3-4 days.
Alternatively, if you want your leftovers to last longer, then you can freeze 'em in an airtight container - or freezer-safe bag - for up to 3 months.
How To Reheat Baby Back Ribs
Once you're ready to enjoy these sous vide ribs again, you can either eat them cold, or you can reheat them.
I think they're best reheated, so to reheat your ribs, you'll want to brush them with a touch of BBQ sauce and wrap them in foil. Then put 'em on a baking sheet and heat them in the oven for about 15-ish minutes at 350°F or until they reach your desired temperature.
FAQs About This Sous Vide Ribs Recipe
How long does it take to sous vide ribs?
The exact time for sous vide cooking ribs will depend on the temperature of your sous vide. It will take about 10 hours to sous vide ribs at 165°F. You can sous vide them at that temperature for less time, but you'll want to bake them in the oven longer if you do that.
Can you sous vide ribs in 4 hours?
Yes, you can sous vide ribs in 4 hours. But like I just said above, if you do that, you'll want to bake them in the oven for a longer period of time, probably for about an hour or until the ribs are fully cooked.
Can you overcook ribs in sous vide?
Technically yes, but one of the best parts of cooking sous vide is that it's surprisingly hard to overcook anything since you set the temperature and time. While you wouldn't want to forget about your ribs in the sous vide, the temperature you set the sous vide machine to and the time you keep the ribs in it will cook them to perfection without having to worry about overcooking.
