    THE BEST KETO HOT CHOCOLATE

When the weather gets chilly, there's nothing better than a cup of hot chocolate to warm you up from this inside out, am I right?

And while you've probably had your fair share of hot drinks before, there's a good chance you've never had anything like this keto hot chocolate recipe.

This sugar free hot chocolate is intensely chocolatey and milky with a thick, silky texture and just the right amount of sweetness. Honestly, it tastes like you melted a whole chocolate bar down into a super luxurious drink!

And it's so simple & easy to make! Less than 10 minutes is all it takes to make it!

Oh, and don't be surprised if you and your family - kids included - end up loving this keto hot cocoa more than the "regular" pre-mixed kind.

By the way, if you want to take your hot chocolate experience over the edge, I suggest pairing it with these Keto Croissants for breakfast or Keto Brownies for dessert.

    INGREDIENTS

Alright, as you already know,  you only need 4 ingredients to make this keto hot chocolate.

And if you've made any of my keto recipes, there's a good chance you have all of these in your kitchen!

So, here's what you'll need for this sugar free hot chocolate mix:

    • 1 cup Almond Milk
    • 1 ½ Tbsps. Cocoa Powder
    • 1 ½ Tbsps. Granulated Erythritol
    • Pinch of Salt
    • Pinch of Xanthan Gum (optional to thicken)
    • Sugar Free Whipped Cream (optional)
Part of a pot filled with cocoa powder.

MAKING THIS A SUGAR FREE HOT CHOCOLATE

As I'm sure you know, refined sugar - and really just any kind of sugar in general - is off-limits if you're following a low carb diet like the keto diet. So, to keep this hot chocolate keto friendly, low carb, and sugar free, we'll be using granulated erythritol instead.

Having said that, my favorite erythritol sweetener to use is Swerve - it has the same taste and sweetness level as regular sugar, but it also has 0 carbs and 0 calories, making it an excellent sweetener for the keto diet.

Another great option you can use is Lakanto's Monk Fruit Sweetener. Just like Swerve, this monk fruit sweetener is as sweet as regular sugar and has no carbs or calories. So, if monk fruit is all you have at home, you can use that just as well!

HOW TO MAK KETO HOT CHOCOLATE

This keto hot chocolate recipe honestly can't get any simpler. All you have to do is combine the ingredients, heat them up in a pot, and transfer your keto cocoa to a mug. How easy is that?!

And, all in all, this recipe should take about 10 minutes or less to make from start to finish.

Also, just so you know, the recipe makes 1 cup or exactly 1 serving of keto hot chocolate. But, of course, you can multiply the recipe if you're making this hot chocolate for more people - or if you want an extra large serving for yourself!

Alright, now let's dive into the details of this recipe.

    STEP 1: COMBINING THE INGREDIENTS

First, put a small pot over low heat on your stovetop and add the almond milk, cocoa powder, granulated erythritol, xanthan gum - if using it -and salt to the pot.

Then use a wooden spoon to thoroughly mix everything and continue stirring over low heat for about 5-10 minutes until your hot chocolate thickens. And it's okay if it starts bubbling a little.

STEP 2: FINISHING UP & SERVING

Once your keto hot cocoa is ready, pour it into your favorite mug - or mugs - while its' nice and hot.

Finally, top it off with some whipped cream, then get cozy and enjoy!

FAQS ABOUT THIS KETO HOT CHOCOLATE RECIPE

HOW DO I STORE KETO HOT CHOCOLATE?

You can store extra servings of this keto hot cocoa in the fridge for later, and you can even have it as an iced chocolate drink instead of heating it up!

To store your keto hot chocolate, let it cool to room temperature before transferring it to a sealable jar. Then, you can keep it in the fridge for 3 days. Enjoy it cold or warm it up on the stovetop over low heat.

    IS WHIPPED CREAM KETO FRIENDLY?

Well, yes and no. Pure whipped cream is keto friendly because the only ingredient is heavy cream. But most whipped cream brands have added sugar or sweeteners that aren't good for the keto diet. So you'll want to make sure you're getting whipped cream without any sugar or carb-heavy sweeteners added.

Or, you can make your own by whipping a cup of heavy cream - and a tablespoon of granulated erythritol if you want it sweeter - with a beater until you get medium peaks.

WHAT ELSE CAN I TOP KETO HOT CHOCOLATE WITH?

In addition to your whipped cream, you can top this sugar free hot chocolate with cinnamon, this Oreo-like cocoa powder, sugar free chocolate syrup, or keto chocolate chips.

    WRAPPING IT ALL UP

Well, that's how you to make hot chocolate keto friendly!

I love making this for my family when the cold weather hit - it's the ultimate drink for the fall and winter seasons. And I honestly think this sugar free hot chocolate mix beats any pre-made mix you can buy! But I may be biased, so you'll have to try it for yourself and find out.

If you do make it, don't forget to leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

I'd love to hear from you!
