How To Make Chicken Crescent Roll Casserole
1. Prep work. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C), grease an 8-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray, and set it aside.
2. Make the chicken mixture. In a bowl, combine the chopped chicken with ¼ cup of cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and thyme. Mix well to combine everything together.
3. Stuff the crescent rolls. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles. Divide the chicken among the triangles and place an even amount of the chicken mixture on the wider part of the dough. Roll each crescent roll, tucking in the chicken and cheddar cheese.
4. Bake the crescent rolls. Place the crescent rolls in the prepared baking dish and bake them for 13 minutes or until slightly golden brown.
5. Make the sauce. While the crescent rolls are baking, combine the condensed soup with milk in a saucepot over medium heat. Add the rest of the shredded cheese to the pot and stir until the cheese melts.
6. Add the sauce to the casserole and bake. Pour the soup mixture over the chicken crescent rolls until the sauce reaches halfway up the rolls. Bake the crescent roll casserole for another 10 minutes. Serve the crescent rolls warm with cooked peas, green beans, or your desired veggies. Enjoy!
My Tips For Making The Best Recipe
- I've made this recipe with rotisserie chicken and leftover cooked chicken breasts, and it always turns out great, so use whatever is most convenient for you.
- If you don't have cream of chicken soup, you can use other condensed soups, like cream of celery soup or cream of mushroom soup.
- Add a few tablespoons of softened cream cheese to the chicken mixture for a creamier, more decadent filling.
- I always serve chicken crescent roll casserole with freshly grated cheese on top for a little extra cheesy flavor, so whip out the parmesan cheese if you have some.
- You can add vegetables to make an even healthier casserole. I'd suggest steaming a bag of frozen mixed vegetables, then tossing it into the cream sauce right before the second bake.
How To Store Chicken Crescent Roll Casserole
In the fridge: Store the leftover chicken crescent rolls in an airtight container and the soup mixture in a separate container. They'll last in the fridge for up to 4 days.
In the freezer: Allow the chicken crescent bake to cool completely, then transfer it to a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 4 months.
Reheating: My favorite way to reheat this casserole is in the oven. Put the crescent rolls and soup mixture in a baking dish and warm at 350°F for about 10 minutes or until it's heated through. Let the frozen casserole thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
