Ingredients You'll Need
- Butter- adds flavor when cooking the veggies.
- Onion- sliced thin. I used red onion, but white onion works too.
- Garlic- minced for flavor.
- Brussel sprouts- the star of the dish! You'll want them to be cored and halved, and peel the yellowish outer layer.
- Salt and pepper- for seasoning.
- Heavy cream- adds richness to the cheese sauce.
- Cheese- shredded, I used cheddar and gouda.
- Bacon bits- add an incredible smoky flavor.
- Parsley- fresh, for garnish!
How To Make Brussel Sprouts Casserole
Step 1: Prep and cook. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180ºC). Grease a large oven-safe pan or skillet with some butter and put it on the stove over medium heat. Add the Brussels sprouts, onion, and garlic to the hot skillet. Season them with salt and pepper and stir to combine everything together. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring every few minutes while cooking.
Step 2: Combine the ingredients. Remove the skillet from the heat. If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, transfer everything to a casserole dish. Then add the heavy cream to the skillet, and give everything a mix. Finish it off by adding the shredded cheese and bacon on top.
Step 3: Bake and serve. Put the skillet or dish into the oven and bake for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve and enjoy!
Tips To Make The Best Recipe
- Use similar-sized brussel sprouts to be sure they all cook evenly. Cut larger sprouts into quarters if needed.
- Cook the casserole for a few minutes longer if you want the brussels sprout leaves brown and crispy.
- Make sure to peel the outer leaves from your brussel sprouts before slicing them in half and removing the stems.
- When you add the heavy cream, scrape up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan. These bits will deepen the flavor of the dish.
How To Store Brussel Sprouts Casserole
In the fridge: If you have any leftovers, transfer the casserole to an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
In the freezer: To keep the casserole for longer, you can also store it in the freezer. Let it cool completely before transferring the leftovers to a freezer-safe container and freezing for up to 2 months.
Reheating: My favorite way to reheat this creamy brussels sprouts casserole is to put everything back in the casserole dish and bake it at 350°F for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese melts again.
