My Take On Applebee's Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp
If you're looking for a dinner recipe that will impress your family on a casual weeknight - or even guests on the weekend - this Bourbon Street chicken and shrimp recipe is it! It's a crowd-pleaser every time I make it...even my wife loves it and she's hard to please - sorry babe, but it's true.
Anyway, if you love Applebee's Bourbon Street chicken and shrimp then you will love, love, love this recipe. That's because I tirelessly made, remade, and re-remade it until it was perfect and tasted like the "real deal". The hardest part of the whole process was getting the right balance of bourbon and seasonings in each bite, and I feel like I accomplished that with this version.
Also, besides being incredibly tasty, it's also super quick and easy to whip up. Just a few simple steps are all you have to follow to put it together and the whole process should take you no more than 30-40 minutes to do. If you ask me that's not too shabby as far as dinner recipes from scratch go.
Why I Love This Recipe
Legit flavor. This Bourbon Street chicken and shrimp recipe tastes just like the one from Applebee's, and it might be even better!
Simple ingredients. Everything used to make this recipe is a really basic pantry staple ingredient you probably have at home already.
Crowd-pleaser. As I mentioned a second ago, everyone always loves the recipe, so it'll be a hit no matter who you serve it to.
Ingredients
A lot of flavor requires a lot of ingredients. But, don't be intimidated by the length of the ingredient list. When you take a closer look, you'll see that they're all common cooking ingredients, and you'll be using the same ones for both the chicken and the shrimp.
Anyway, here's what you'll need for the potato puree:
- 3 cups Small/Medium Potatoes, cut and cleaned
- ½ cup Heavy Cream
- 2 tbsp. Butter
- Salt and Pepper
For the chicken:
- 2 Chicken Breasts
- ¼ cup Bourbon
- 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
- 1 tsp. Dried Thyme
- 1 tsp. Dried Oregano
- Salt and Pepper
For the shrimp:
- 1 cup Shrimp
- ¼ cup Bourbon
- 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
- 1 tsp. Paprika Powder
- 1 tsp. Dried Thyme
- 1 tsp. Dried Oregano
- Salt and Pepper
And for some extra flavor:
- ¼ cup Mushrooms, chopped
- ¼ cup Onion, sliced
- 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
- Salt and Pepper
See, the length of the list is a little misleading. There are actually way fewer ingredients needed than it seems.
Also, what's great is you can use many of them to make some more easy dinner recipes like this seafood stuffing and this Ruth Chris stuffed chicken. So, if you end up with some extras of them give one of those recipes a shot next. You won't regret it.
How To Make Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp
Alright, so the process of making this delicious recipe is pretty simple. Just a few steps is all you need to follow to make it.
So, let's not waste any more time, let's get cooking!
STEP 1: PREP WORK
First, put the chicken in a medium bowl and add the bourbon, olive oil, dried thyme, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Then, give everything a mix, and put the bowl in the refrigerator to let the chicken marinate for 30 minutes.
Next, put the shrimp in a small bowl and add the bourbon, olive oil, paprika powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Then, give that a mix and put it in the fridge as well for 30 minutes.
Lastly, season the mushrooms and onions with olive oil, salt, and pepper before cooking.
Now place a large pot of well-salted water over high heat and bring it to a boil.
Once boiling, add the cut and cleaned potatoes to it and cook them for about 15 minutes or until they're soft fork-tender. Then drain the water, and set the potatoes aside.
STEP 2: COOKING THE CHICKEN, SHRIMP, & MUSHROOMS
Once everything marinades, heat a grill pan to medium heat and coat it with a little cooking spray.
First, grill the chicken breasts for about 4 minutes, then flip and cook for another 4 minutes - or until the internal temp reaches 165°F.
Next, grill the shrimp for about 3 minutes on each side - or until browned.
Lastly, grill the mushrooms for a few minutes until browned. And if your grill pan is big enough, you can cook the shrimp and mushrooms simultaneously.
STEP 3: PUREEING THE POTATOES
By now, the potatoes should be ready to go. Add the boiled potatoes to a large bowl and mash them up with a puree masher.
Then, add the butter, heavy cream, salt, and pepper and mix until everything combines.
STEP 4: SERVING
Once everything is cooked, add the garlic mashed potatoes to a bowl. Then put the grilled chicken, shrimp, and mushrooms on top.
Finally, dig in and enjoy!
How I Recommend Storing And Reheating The Chicken and Shrimp
In the fridge: Transfer the leftover potatoes, chicken, shrimp, and mushrooms to separate airtight containers, and they'll all last in the fridge for up to 4 days.
In the freezer: You can keep everything in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag for about 4 months.
Reheating: Put everything back into a skillet and heat on the stove over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. If reheating the frozen leftovers, let them thaw in the fridge overnight or add more time.
Alternatively, to warm up the chicken and shrimp even faster you can use your microwave. Just heat it in 1-minute intervals until it's hot. For me, this usually takes only 1-2 times in there.
