The Best Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp

This Bourbon street chicken and shrimp is a recipe that will impress your family on a casual weeknight or even guests on the weekend. It's salty, sweet, savory, and has so many delicious flavors every bite.

The creamy potato puree combined with the bourbon seasoned chicken and shrimp is a combination that's simply to die for.

And even though this recipe has restaurant-quality flavor, it's actually super easy to make at home - just like this Olive Garden chicken and shrimp carbonara, and this Carrabba's chicken bryan recipe. By the way, all of these recipes go even better with this garlic bread!

    Why This Recipe Works

Legit flavor. This chicken and shrimp copycat recipe tastes just like the one from Applebee's, and it might be even better!

Simple ingredients. Everything used to make this recipe is a really basic pantry staple ingredient you probably have at home already.

Crowd-pleaser. Everyone always loves this copycat Bourbon Street chicken and shrimp, so it'll be a hit no matter when you serve it.

    Ingredients

Now, a lot of flavor requires a lot of ingredients.

But, don't be intimidated by the length of the ingredient list. When you take a closer look, you'll see that they're all common cooking ingredients, and you'll be using the same ones for both the chicken and the shrimp.

So, here's what you'll need for the potato puree:

    • 3 cups Small/Medium Potatoes, cut and cleaned
    • ½ cup Heavy Cream
    • 2 tbsp. Butter
    • Salt and Pepper

    For the chicken:

    • 2 Chicken Breasts
    • ¼ cup Bourbon
    • 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
    • 1 tsp. Dried Thyme
    • 1 tsp. Dried Oregano
    • Salt and Pepper

    The shrimp:

    • 1 cup Shrimp
    • ¼ cup Bourbon
    • 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
    • 1 tsp. Paprika Powder
    • 1 tsp. Dried Thyme
    • 1 tsp. Dried Oregano
    • Salt and Pepper

    And for some extra flavor:

    • ¼ cup Mushrooms, chopped
    • ¼ cup Onion, sliced
    • 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
    • Salt and Pepper

See, the length of the list is a little misleading. There are actually way fewer ingredients needed than it seems.

And what's great is you can use many of them to make some more easy dinner recipes like this seafood stuffing and Ruth Chris stuffed chicken.

How To make Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp

Alright, so the process of making this delicious recipe is pretty simple. Just a few steps is all you need to follow to make it.

So, let's not waste any more time, let's get cooking!

    STEP 1: PREP WORK

First, put the chicken in a medium bowl and add the bourbon, olive oil, dried thyme, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Then, give everything a mix, and put the bowl in the refrigerator to let the chicken marinate for 30 minutes.

Next, put the shrimp in a small bowl and add the bourbon, olive oil, paprika powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Then, give that a mix and put it in the fridge as well for 30 minutes.

Lastly, season the mushrooms and onions with olive oil, salt, and pepper before cooking.

Now place a large pot of well-salted water over high heat and bring it to a boil.

Once boiling, add the cut and cleaned potatoes to it and cook them for about 15 minutes or until they're soft fork-tender. Then drain the water, and set the potatoes aside.

A three-way split picture showing grilled chicken, grilled shrimp, mushrooms all cooking on a grill pan.

STEP 2: COOKING THE CHICKEN, SHRIMP, & MUSHROOMS

Once everything marinades, heat a grill pan to medium heat and coat it with a little cooking spray.

First, grill the chicken breasts for about 4 minutes, then flip and cook for another 4 minutes - or until the internal temp reaches 165°F.

Next, grill the shrimp for about 3 minutes on each side - or until browned.

Lastly, grill the mushrooms for a few minutes until browned. And if your grill pan is big enough, you can cook the shrimp and mushrooms simultaneously.

    STEP 3: PUREEING THE POTATOES

By now, the potatoes should be ready to go. Add the boiled potatoes to a large bowl and mash them up with a puree masher.

Then, add the butter, heavy cream, salt, and pepper and mix until everything combines.

    STEP 4: SERVING

Once everything is cooked, add the garlic mashed potatoes to a bowl. Then put the grilled chicken, shrimp, and mushrooms on top.

    Finally, dig in and enjoy!

How To Store Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp

In the fridge: Transfer the leftover potatoes, chicken, shrimp, and mushrooms to separate airtight containers, and they'll all last in the fridge for up to 4 days.

In the fridge: You can keep everything in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag for about 4 months.

Reheating: Put everything back into a skillet and heat on the stove over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. If reheating the frozen leftovers, let them thaw in the fridge overnight or add more time.
