The casserole is layered with seasoned ground beef, tender egg noodles, and a super-rich, creamy, and cheesy sauce. That alone would be delicious, but it's taken to another level by covering the whole casserole in a layer of ooey-gooey cheddar cheese.
It's seriously delicious, and I think it's even better than my other Amish country casserole. That Amish country casserole has been a hit since I posted it, so you know this one has to be good!
This Amish hamburger casserole is perfect if you're hosting and need a big dinner that'll impress. I typically serve this casserole with my Amish potato salad for an authentic meal, but it also goes really well with this garlic bread to dip in the sauce.

How To Make Amish Hamburger Casserole
1. Prep: Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. In a large saucepan, cook egg noodles according to the package directions. Drain and set aside for later.
2. Make the sauce: Take out a large bowl and stir together the cottage cheese, cream cheese, and Greek yogurt. Mix everything until it fully combines, then set this mixture aside.
3. Cook the beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef to the hot oil and cook, breaking it apart until it's browned on all sides.
4. Add the flavor: Sprinkle the cooked ground beef with the oregano, thyme, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix to combine the beef with the seasonings. Pour the tomato sauce into the skillet and simmer for 5-8 minutes.
5. Layer the casserole: Place half of the cooked egg noodles in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the cream cheese mixture and half of the cooked ground beef mixture. Repeat layers with the remaining ingredients and top the casserole with the shredded cheddar cheese.
6. Bake and serve: Bake in the preheated oven, uncovered, for 25-30 minutes. Let the casserole sit at room temperature for 15 minutes to let the flavors develop. Sprinkle with the chopped basil and serve. Enjoy!
Tips To Make The Best Recipe
- Make sure to cook the egg noodles al dente since they'll cook a little more while the casserole bakes in the oven.
- Swap the yogurt with sour cream for a different flavor.
- Use canned tomato soup, cream of mushroom soup, or cream of chicken soup in place of the tomato sauce for a creamier casserole.
- Top each layer of the casserole with grated parmesan cheese for an even cheesier flavor.
- Use other ground meat like ground turkey or ground chicken for the meat mixture.
- Feel free to use any shredded cheese you want, depending on your flavor preference.
How To Store Amish Casserole
In the fridge: Store the leftover Amish hamburger bake in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
In the freezer: Transfer the leftover amish casserole with egg noodles to a freezer-safe container or bag and freeze for up to 3 months.
Reheating: Put the casserole back in a casserole dish and warm it in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes or until it reaches your desired temperature. Let the frozen casserole thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating, or add more reheating time.
