Why I Love This Waffle Recipe for One
I love this recipe because it gives you the perfect single-serve waffle in just minutes—no leftovers, no wasting batter, and no hauling out a huge mixing bowl. Everything comes together in about 10 minutes, and since you’re only cooking one or two waffles instead of a whole batch, breakfast is on the table fast.
Another thing I love about this recipe is that it uses simple pantry staples you most likely already have on hand. There’s nothing complicated here, and the batter mixes together effortlessly.
These waffles also store well. You can make the waffle ahead of time, pop it in the fridge or freezer, and just reheat it in a toaster or air fryer when you need a quick breakfast. It crisps right back up like it’s fresh from the waffle iron.
And honestly, these waffles aren’t just for breakfast. I make them whenever the craving hits, whether it’s a quick lunch, a cozy breakfast-for-dinner situation, or topped with ice cream and fruit for dessert. This is the kind of easy, satisfying recipe that fits any time of day.
These waffles are seriously delicious, but don't just take my word for it; check out what this reader said:
The waffles for one are THE BOMB! So delicious! I doubled the batch to make 8 little round waffles. We made a waffle, sausage, egg & cheese sandwich out of them. Yum! -Pegg J

Ingredients You'll Need
Another thing I love about this waffle recipe is that simple ingredients are all you need to make it. Honestly, you might have most - if not all - of them at your house already.
Anyway, here's what you'll need to make the waffles:
- ½ cup milk
- 1 egg
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon melted butter, cooled
- ½ cup flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar, optional

How To Make Waffles For One
Step 1: Mix the wet ingredients
Whisk milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter in a mixing bowl. Add the sugar at this point, too, if you are using it.

Step 2: Add the dry ingredients
Fold the flour and baking powder into the wet ingredients and stir until you have a smooth batter.

Step 3: Preheat the waffle iron
Heat the waffle iron and once it's hot, brush it with some cooking oil, or butter, or spray it with cooking spray. I used a Dash mini waffle maker, but you can use a regular-size waffle iron as well.

Step 4: Cook the waffles
Pour the batter into the preheated waffle iron. Cook the waffle for a few minutes until it's golden brown and slightly crispy.

Step 5: Serve
As soon as the waffles are cooked, serve warm and with your favorite waffle toppings like butter and maple syrup. Enjoy!

Pro Tips for The Best Waffles For One
- Use a full-size waffle iron for faster cooking. If you’re making a single-serve batch, a larger waffle iron lets you cook everything in one go, giving you a perfectly crisp waffle without waiting for multiple rounds of cooking.
- Don’t overmix the batter. Mix the wet and dry ingredients just until they come together. A slightly lumpy batter is ideal—overmixing develops gluten, which can make the waffle tough instead of light and fluffy.
- Customize your waffle with mix-ins. Chocolate chips, blueberries, chopped nuts, cinnamon, or even a spoonful of peanut butter can be folded into the batter for a fun flavor twist. Add mix-ins last to keep the batter airy.
- Cook until the steam stops for the perfect texture. Most waffle makers naturally signal doneness by releasing steam. When the steam slows or stops, the waffle is usually crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. Avoid opening the waffle iron early—it can cause the waffle to split.
- Don’t skip preheating the waffle maker. A fully heated waffle iron helps your waffle develop that signature crispy exterior. If the iron is not hot enough, the waffle may stick or turn out pale.
- Let the cooked waffle rest on a wire rack. Instead of placing waffles on a plate (where steam softens them), set them on a wire rack for a minute. This keeps the edges crispy.
- Finish strong with your favorite toppings. Fresh fruit, sliced bananas, powdered sugar, whipped cream, butter, maple syrup, nutella, or even yogurt all pair beautifully with this single-serve waffle. You can keep it classic or turn it into a dessert-style waffle.
- Make it ahead for quick breakfasts. This waffle freezes and reheats surprisingly well. Just pop it in a toaster or air fryer for a crispy, made-fresh texture—perfect for busy mornings.

Waffles For One Recipe FAQS
How many waffles does this single-serve recipe make?
This small-batch recipe makes one large Belgian waffle or about four mini waffles, depending on the size of your waffle iron. If you use a standard round iron, you’ll typically get one perfectly sized waffle for one person, with no leftover batter.
Can I substitute the milk in the waffle batter?
Yes. Whole milk gives the richest flavor and crispiest edges, but you can substitute almond milk, oat milk, soy milk, or even water. If using water, add it slowly since the batter will be thinner and may spread more in the waffle iron. Dairy-free milks work great and still produce fluffy waffles.
Can I double or triple this recipe?
Absolutely. This is one of the easiest recipes to scale. Simply double or triple the ingredients to make more waffles without changing the cooking process. It’s perfect if you’re cooking for two or meal-prepping waffles for the week.
Why aren’t my waffles crispy?
Waffles may turn out soft if the waffle iron isn’t fully preheated, the batter is too wet, or the waffle is removed too soon. For crisp edges, heat the waffle iron all the way, cook until steam stops coming out, and cool the waffles on a wire rack instead of a plate (which traps steam).
Can I make these waffles ahead of time?
Yes—these waffles reheat beautifully. Make them ahead and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the toaster or air fryer to bring back their crispiness.
Can I freeze leftover waffles?
Definitely. Once cooled completely, add the waffles to a freezer-safe bag and freeze for quick breakfasts. To serve, pop them straight into a toaster, and they’ll taste freshly made.
Do I need a Belgian waffle maker?
No. This batter works with any style of waffle iron, including mini, classic square, or Belgian. A Belgian iron will give you deeper pockets, but the flavor and texture stay just as delicious.

I was dying for a waffle this morning. We are snowed in. I had all the ingredients and am eating the best waffle I've ever had. It's crispy and fluffy in the middle. I just hope I can finish it. It was so easy and quick to make. I only had heavy cream. So, I added a 1/4 of water and a 1/4 of cream and it came out perfect. My husband's mad he had an egg sandwich!!! Will definitely keep and make again!!!
