My Take On Shrimp Dip
If you've ever had cream cheese shrimp dip before, just wait until you give this recipe a try.
I know I'm biased, but I can almost guarantee it's ten times better than anything you've ever tried! Well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but this stuff is good, crazy good.
This shrimp dip is made with the perfect combination of tender shrimp, spicy chili sauce, creamy mayonaisse, and rich cream cheese among a few other things .
It's a little tangy, a little spicy, a little creamy, and a whole 'lotta delicious. What's even better than how it tastes though is how quick it is to make. Only a couple of super simple steps are needed to make it, and you'll have this creamy shrimp dip recipe ready to go in under 5 minutes!
By the way, while I love serving this dip with some crackers - especially Ritz Crackers - it's also super delicious with these homemade air fryer tortilla chips.
Ingredients
One of my favorite things about this shrimp dip recipe is that it's made almost entirely out of kitchen/pantry staples. In fact, I'm willing to bet you'll have most - if not all - of them at your house already!
Anyway, here's what you'll need to make it:
- 1 cup cream cheese
- ⅓ cup mayonnaise (sour cream or low fat greek yogurt will work too)
- 3 tablespoon chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon onion flakes
- ¼ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, optional
- 4 oz. canned shrimp or marinated cooked shrimp, chopped
- 1-2 tablespoon sliced green onions
- Lemon or lime juice, as desired
See, pretty simple stuff, right?
By the way, if you have any leftover cream cheese, then I highly recommend giving this crack dip a try too! It's just as easy to make, and it will pair perfectly with your shrimp dip.
Oh, and if you're looking for more shrimp appetizers, you have to make these shrimp egg rolls. They're so good, and they've been a hit at every party I've put them out at.
Ingredient Substitutions And Modifications
Now, I usually just make this cream cheese shrimp dip with the exact ingredients listed above. But, with that said, there's definitely room to customize this recipe to make it uniquely yours. So, with that said, I'll give a couple recommendations on how you can do just that.
Swap The Mayonnaise
So, this recipe calls for a combination of cream cheese and mayonnaise, but you can swap the mayonnaise for sour cream, and it will taste just as good. In fact, one time when I was in a pinch - and didn't have mayonnaise or sour cream - I used low fat greek yogurt and the dip turned out just as good.
Experiment With Different Spices
If you want to ramp up the flavor of this shrimp dip, then you can play around with adding different types of spices. I've made this shrimp dip with Old Bay seasoning - just a teaspoon or two of it - and it added a nice kick of flavor to it.
If you just want to make a spicier shrimp dip, then you can either add a few splashes of hot sauce or increase the amount of chili sauce.
How To Make Shrimp Dip With Cream Cheese
Now it's time for the fun part - it's time to make the dip!
I hate to sound like a broken record, but it really couldn't be easier to make this shrimp dip with cream cheese. You basically just chop the shrimp into tiny pieces, then combine all of the dip ingredients together in a bowl. It's really that simple!
Anyway, let's stop wasting time and get into the recipe!
Step 1: Mix The Dip Ingredients
First things first, in a bowl, you'll want to beat together the cream cheese and mayonnaise. Then, after you've done that, you'll want to add in the lime - or lemon juice - the chili sauce, onion flakes, and Worcestershire sauce.
Now you can mix all of these ingredients together until they're completely smooth and combined.
Step 2: Add The Shrimp
Once the base of your shrimp dip is mixed together, you'll want to prepare the shrimp.
So, if you're using canned shrimp, you can strain the excess liquid from the can and then chop the shrimp into small pieces.
However, if you're using fresh shrimp, you'll want to cook it first since this dip recipe requires cooked shrimp.
Also, just keep in mind that whatever size you chop the shrimp to will be the size they end up in the final dip. So, if you want a smooth shrimp dip, then chop them into super fine pieces. You could even use a small blender to combine the shrimp with the other ingredients if you want the dip to be super smooth.
Anyway, once you've chopped up all the cooked shrimp, you can add it to the cheese mixture and give everything a stir to combine them together.
Step 3: Serve The Dip
Now that the dip is mixed, you can give it a taste and adjust any seasonings as necessary. After all, you're the chef, so make sure it tastes perfect to you.
Then, finally, serve your shrimp dip in a serving bowl with a sprinkle of diced green onions on top, and enjoy!
How To Make Hot Shrimp Dip
One of the things I love most about this shrimp recipe is that it can be enjoyed hot or cold.
To turn this into a hot shrimp dip, simply combine your ingredients as I listed above, then transfer 'em to a small baking dish, and top 'em with some shredded cheese. Then, after you've done that, you'll want to cook it in the oven for about 20-25 minutes at 375°F - or until the shredded cheese is bubbly and golden.
How I Recommend Storing The Shrimp Dip
This recipe for shrimp dip stores incredibly well in the fridge. I usually like to make it a day or two before serving it, but it will stay good for up to 3-4 days in the fridge. Just make sure you put it in an airtight container when you store it.
With that said, if you want to store the shrimp dip for even longer you can freeze it. Stored in the freezer in an airtight container it'll stay good for around 2 months. Then, when you're ready to enjoy it again, just let it thaw in the fridge overnight.
My Final Thoughts
Well, that's how to make cream cheese shrimp dip in just 5 minutes!
This dip really is a fantastic appetizer to impress your guests with. It's a little different from the majority of dips that people usually make, yet it's so flavorful and satisfying, everyone is sure to love it. I know that's the case when I make it.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this shrimp dip recipe as much as my family and I do.
As always, if you give this recipe a try, be sure to leave a comment and let me know how it went!
