How To Make Apple French Toast Casserole
1. Prep work: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8-inch baking dish with some butter.
2. Make the custard: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs with half and half cream, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.
3. Soak the bread: Dip each slice of challah bread into the prepared custard mixture and let it soak in for 5 seconds on each side. Then, arrange the bread slices in an overlapping pattern in the prepared baking dish. Pour any remaining egg mixture over the bread mixture.
4. Make the apple topping: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, maple syrup, and mix. Then add the sliced apples and cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring frequently while cooking. Finally, add the cinnamon apple mixture evenly over the bread slices.
5. Bake and serve: Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and continue baking for another 20 minutes. Remove the casserole dish from the oven and serve the cinnamon apple French toast with some extra maple syrup on top. Enjoy!
