As good as this casserole is to eat, it's even more enjoyable to make! Just about a handful of steps is all you'll have to follow to put it together.
By the way, it goes great with these Cracker Barrel biscuits. The combination of the two is always a huge hit at our house.

Best comfort food meal. This casserole has everything you need for an all-in-one casserole dish that's warm, hearty, and so, so comforting.
Ingredients
Another reason I love this cheesy ham casserole recipe is that it's made with simple ingredients. Honestly, you probably have most of them on hand right now!
Anyway, here's everything you'll need for the ham filling:
- 1 ¾ cup chicken broth
- ¾ cup long-grain rice
- 1 ½ cup cooked ham, diced
- 1 ½ cup broccoli florets
- 7.5oz. condensed cream of chicken soup
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
And here's what you'll need for the cracker crumb topping:
- ½ cup crushed crackers
- 1 ½ tablespoon butter, melted
By the way, you can use a lot of these same ingredients to make this ham and hash brown casserole recipe or this ham and noodle casserole recipe. They're two more of my favorite leftover ham recipes, so you'll definitely want to try them next!
How To Make Ham Casserole
1. Prep work: Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Cook the rice: Add the chicken broth to a saucepot and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Add the rice, cover the pot tightly with a lid, and cook it for 7 minutes.
3. Cook the broccoli: Now, add broccoli to the saucepot and cover the pot with the lid. Let the broccoli cook with the rice for 8 minutes. After the 8 minutes, remove the pot from the heat and let it stand, covered, for 10 minutes.
4. Make the casserole filling: In a large bowl, combine the condensed soup, sour cream, and onion. Mix until fully combined, then add the diced ham and stir. Next, add the rice and broccoli and stir to combine.
5. Assemble the casserole: Transfer the casserole filling to the prepared baking dish and top with the cheddar cheese.
6. Bake and serve: Bake the casserole for 15 minutes. While it's baking, combine crackers and melted butter in a bowl. Remove the casserole from the oven, sprinkle the cracker mixture over the cheese, and bake for another 10 minutes. Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
Tips To Make The Best Recipe
- Make ham and potato casserole by swapping rice for peeled and cubed potatoes.
- Use other types of cheese, like pepper jack cheese or mozzarella cheese, to switch up the flavor.
- Use leftover rice to make an even more convenient casserole.
- Swap the cream of chicken soup for any creamy soup like cream of mushroom soup or cream of celery soup.
- Add extra veggies, like frozen peas, carrots, or a mixed bag of frozen vegetables for an even healthier casserole.
- Swap Ritz crackers for bread crumbs if you don't have crackers.
How To Store Ham Casserole
In the fridge: Store the leftover ham casserole in an airtight container or put a lid on the casserole dish and keep it in the fridge for 3-4 days.
In the freezer: To keep it longer, let the leftover ham casserole cool and store it in a freezer-safe airtight container for up to 6 months.
Reheating: Put the casserole back into a baking dish and warm it in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes, or until the casserole is fully warmed. Let the frozen casserole thaw in the fridge overnight first before reheating.
