    The Best Seafood Boil

If you've never had an authentic Cajun seafood boil, just wait until you try this recipe.

From the Cajun seasoning to the steamed crab legs and buttery corn on the cob, this one-pot recipe has everything you need to make the perfect dinner. It's just so darn good and better than anything you can get at a restaurant.

Plus, in addition to being delicious, this seafood recipe is as simple as it gets. Seriously, you barely have to do a thing to make this recipe! Just combine all of the ingredients in a Dutch oven, then dump the whole thing onto a tray and serve.

Now, what's even better is that this dish is endlessly customizable. From the seasoned broth to the crab legs, you can make this recipe entirely your own. Don't worry about ideas though for switching things up, I'll be sure to offer a bunch of helpful suggestions down below.

    Ingredients

Another thing to love about this seafood boil recipe is that the ingredients you'll need to make it are super simple too. One quick trip to the grocery store - or your local seafood shop - and you'll have everything you'll need to get this recipe on the table.

Anyway, here's what you'll need to make this seafood boil:

    • 2 Lemons, cut in quarters
    • 1 tbsp. Old Bay Seasoning
    • 6 Garlic Cloves, lightly smashed
    • 1 Onion, peeled and cut into quarters
    • 4 Russet Potatoes, quartered
    • 1 Lobster
    • 1 Big Crab (or 2-4 clusters of snow crab legs)
    • 1 pound Clams
    • 2 Ears Corn, cut into 3-4 pieces
    • 4 Smoked Sausages, cut into 1-inch pieces
    • 3 tbsp. Butter
    • Fresh Parsley and Lemon Wedges to serve

How delicious does that ingredient list sound?! My mouth is literally watering after writing it out.

By the way, if you love seafood like me, you have to check out this seafood stuffing recipe next. It uses a lot of the same ingredients as this seafood boil recipe, and it's just as delicious.

An assortment of ingredients including bowls of clams, lobster, crab, cut potatoes, celery, corn-on-the-cob, fresh herbs, lemon wedges, sausages, and garlic.

    Ingredient Substitutions And Suggestions

As I mentioned earlier, this recipe is super customizable. Although I almost always make it with the ingredients listed above, there are some changes you can make, and it'll be just as delicious.

When it comes to the crab, I personally love Dungeness crab legs, but clusters of snow crab legs and king crab legs will work too.

As for the lobster, you can swap one whole lobster for four lobster tails instead. It's totally up to you! Honestly, sometimes I even swap out the lobster for a couple of pounds of fresh shrimp. So, if you're not a huge lobster fan you can give that a go.

For the sausage, I recommend using andouille sausage since it has a natural cajun flavor. That being said, any smoked sausage will do. Speaking of cajun flavor, I love using Old Bay seasoning to elevate this dish, but you can also use any cajun seasoning that you want.

Now, a seafood boil is only as good as the seafood boil sauce that goes with it. Luckily, I have the best seafood boil sauce recipe already on the blog for you to make! It really ties all of the flavors od this seafood boil together and it's a must-make to go along with this recipe.

Black Dutch oven filled with onions, celery, potatoes and lemon wedges in a brown broth. Surrounding the Dutch oven is an assortment of ingredients including lobster, crab, clams, sausages, corn, fresh herbs, and spices.

How To Make A Seafood Boil

Now it's time for the fun part, making this seafood boil of course!

I know I've said it a bunch already, but this one-pot dish is so easy to put together. You literally build your seasoned broth, then let everything cook. All in all, it'll take you about 45 minutes, but the majority of the time is passive cooking and requires little, to no effort from you.

Anyway, let's stop wasting time and get cooking!

Black Dutch oven filled with potatoes, onion, and lemons in a brown broth. Surrounding the Dutch oven are ingredients including corn, butter, fresh herbs, clams, and spices.

    Step 1: Make the Broth

First, take out a Dutch oven - or large pot - and fill it about three-fourths of the way full with water. Then, add the lemon wedges, Old Bay seasoning (or cajun seasoning), garlic, and onion to it.

Now bring everything to a boil to create the flavorful broth for the ingredients to cook in.

A black Dutch oven filled with clams and corn-on-the-cob pieces in a broth. Surrounding the Dutch oven is an assortment of ingredients including butter, fresh herbs, and spices. Step 2: Cook Everything

Once the broth is boiling, add the potatoes and cook them for about 10 minutes - or until they are fork-tender.

Next, add the lobster to the broth and cook it for about 10 minutes.

After that, you can add the smoked sausages to the pot of broth and cook them for about 5 minutes.

Finally, add the clams, crab, and fresh corn to the broth and cook everything for another 5 minutes.

Step 3: Make The Seasoned Melted Butter

So, now that everything is fully cooked, you can transfer the veggies, seafood mixture, and andouille sausage - or smoked sausage - to a large tray and cover it.

Next, melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl and add one cup of the boiled broth mixture. Then, give it a mix to it combines.

A hand pouring broth into a bowl of melted butter, surrounded by other ingredients including a bowl of fresh parsley and a bowl of cooked clams.

    Step 4: Assemble And Serve

Finally, it's time to serve this seafood boil!

So, to do that, you'll want to move the lid from the tray and garnish everything with fresh parsley and lemon wedges.

Then, drizzle the butter on top and serve with my seafood boil sauce that I mentioned earlier. Enjoy!

    How To Store Seafood Boil

This recipe for seafood boil makes 6 servings, so it's perfect for a special family dinner or if you're hosting friends or family. With that said, since it makes so much you may end up with leftovers.

If you do end up with some leftovers you can transfer them to an airtight container and they'll stay good in the fridge for about 2 to 3 days.

    How To Reheat Seafood Boil

Now, to reheat your seafood boil, I recommend using the stovetop. Just transfer your leftovers to the dutch oven - or large pot - and add some broth to it.

Then, you'll want to heat your leftovers over medium heat, and allow the broth to simmer. Just make sure you give it a stir every now and then and heat it until everything reaches your desired temperature. When it does, serve it immediately with some more of the seafood boil sauce I mentioned earlier.

    Wrapping It Up

Well, that's how to make a seafood boil at home!

Honestly, I don't know what my favorite part about this seafood boil recipe is. Maybe it's the perfectly cooked potatoes or the buttery corn on the cob, or the sheer quantity of fresh seafood. Either way, this is hands down one of my favorite seafood recipes ever.

If you love seafood, I think you will be obsessed with this recipe too. It's just too good not to be.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I/we do.
