These peppermint brownies are the ultimate holiday dessert. This recipe creates rich, chocolaty brownies that are filled with chocolate chips and peppermint candy pieces to make an irresistible treat the whole family will love. They're so, so delicious, but the best part about these peppermint brownies is that they only take 5 minutes to prep and then the oven takes care of the rest.



½ cup unsalted butter

1 cup sugar

1/3 cup cocoa powder

½ tsp peppermint extract

½ tsp sea salt

2 eggs

½ cup all-purpose flour

½ cup dark chocolate chips or chopped chocolate pieces

2 tbsp crushed peppermint candies or crushed candy canes


  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.
  3. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir until you have a smooth mixture.
  4. Set it over the stove and heat until warm to the touch. 
  5. Whisk in eggs, one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in flour, half the chocolate chips, and peppermint extract until just incorporated. 
  6. Pour the batter into the baking sheet and top with the remaining chocolate chips and crushed peppermint candies.
  7. Bake the brownies for 25 minutes.
  8. Cool the brownies completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
