This carne guisada recipe is loaded with flavor. It combines tender and juicy meat with sauteed veggies and a rich and delicious tomato sauce to make an unforgettable meal. And the best part is that it's so, so easy to prepare. In fact, 10 minutes is all you need to get this carne guisada recipe going, and then it basically cooks itself after that!



2 tbsp. olive oil 

1 lb. stew meat, cut into small bite-size pieces

1 small onion, chopped

1 cup green bell pepper, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup tomatoes, diced

1 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. black pepper

1 tsp. dried cumin

1 tsp. chili powder

3 tbsp. tomato paste

2 cups beef broth or beef bouillon

Fresh cilantro for garnish


  1. Add olive oil to a large skillet and heat over medium-high heat. 
  2. Add the stew meat and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 to 7 minutes. 
  3. Add the onion, garlic, and bell pepper and cook for about 3 minutes until the veggies are tender. 
  4. Stir in the spices and tomatoes and cook for another minute. Add the beef broth and stir.
  5. Cover and cook over low heat for about 60-90 minutes or more until the meat falls apart, stirring occasionally. Add more beef broth if the gravy is too thick.
  6. Garnish and serve.
