VIRAL ONION CHIPS

This onion chips recipe is the easiest “viral snack” recipe to make at home. No frying, no breading, and almost no prep. Just slice, bake, cool, and crunch.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS RECIPE

Parmesan turns into a crisp “chip,” the onions caramelize and sweeten in the oven, and you get that perfect salty-savory bite with almost no effort.

INGREDIENTS

All you need for this recipe is: White onions, Parmesan cheese, Olive oil, Salt, Garlic powder, Paprika, and a dipping sauce of your choice.

Use a mandoline to slice onions into 1/4-inch rings, keeping them intact as much as possible.

STEP 1: SLICE ONIONS

STEP 2: PREHEAT AND PREP PAN

Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a 12x17-inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat. If using parchment, lightly spray with pan spray.

STEP 3: ADD CHEESE LAYER

Sprinkle Parmesan in a thin, even layer across the baking sheet. Try not to leave big gaps

STEP 4: ADD ONION RINGS

Arrange onion rings on top of the cheese so they’re touching but not overlapping. Brush tops lightly with olive oil. Season with salt, garlic powder, and paprika.

STEP 5: BAKE

Bake the onion ring chips for 18 to 25 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. They'll look like the photo below.

STEP 6: COOL AND BREAK APART

Cool the onion ring chips for 5 to 10 minutes, then break apart into chips and serve.

VARIATIONS

Add a variety of flavors to these viral onion chips. Add crushed red pepper and cayenne for some spice, or sprinkle ranch seasoning lightly after baking for a ranch vibe.

STORAGE TIPS

These are best fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Recrisp in the oven at 375°F for 3-5 minutes
