This chopped Italian sandwich recipe is bold, messy in the best possible way, and one of the most satisfying sandwiches you'll ever make.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS RECIPE
The chopping technique is genius — mixing everything together beforehand means every single bite has the perfect ratio of meat, cheese, vegetables, and dressing all at once.
INGREDIENTS
For this recipe you need: Hoagie rolls, Romaine lettuce, Provolone, Pepperoni, Deli ham, Salami, Tomato, Red onion, Pepperoncini, Mayo, Red wine vinegar, Olive oil, and seasonings
On a large cutting board, lay out the romaine, provolone, pepperoni, ham, salami, tomato slices, red onion, and pepperoncini all together in one pile.
STEP 1: BUILD THE BOARD
Using a large knife, give everything a rough chop together — working through the pile from different angles until the ingredients are broken down into smaller pieces.
STEP 2: GIVE IT A ROUGH CHOP
Add the mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, olive oil, and Italian seasoning directly to the chopped pile on the cutting board. Season with salt and pepper.
STEP 3: DRESS IT
Scoop the dressed chopped filling generously into each hoagie roll. The filling should be overflowing slightly, which is exactly the point.
STEP 4: LOAD THE ROLLS
Wrap each sandwich tightly in parchment paper, folding the ends under to hold everything in place. Cut in half on a diagonal right through the parchment.
STEP 5: WRAP AND CUT
STORAGE TIPS
You can store the chopped filling in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. This is better than storing assembled sandwiches, which get soggy.
