WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS RECIPE
The mayo-grilled bread gets perfectly golden, the mozzarella stretches, the American cheese melts right into the beef, and the mustard cuts through the richness just enough.
INGREDIENTS FOR THE CHEESEBURGER
– Ground beef
– American cheese
– Shredded mozzarella
– Thick white bread
– Mayonnaise
– Yellow mustard
– Salt
– Black pepper
Divide the ground beef into two equal portions and form them into patties. Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.
STEP 1: FORM AND SEASON THE PATTIES
STEP 2: COOK THE BURGER PATTIES
Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat. Press each patty and cook for 4 minutes per side. During the last 2 minutes of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on top.
STEP 3: PREP THE BREAD
Spread a thin, even layer of mayonnaise on one side of each slice of bread. This will be the outside of your grilled cheeseburger.
STEP 4: BUILD THE SANDWICH
Place bread mayo-side down. Add shredded mozzarella then place a cheesy burger patty. Drizzle with mustard and top with the remaining bread, mayo-side out.
STEP 5: GRILL UNTIL GOLDEN
Cook each side of the sandwich for about 2 minutes, pressing gently, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese inside is fully melted.
STEP 6: SERVE
Remove from the pan, slice in half if desired, and serve immediately while hot and gooey.
PRO TIPS
- Press the patties thin for easy cooking
- Use American cheese for classic burger flavor that melts directly into the patties
