INGREDIENTS FOR THE MEATBALLS

– Frozen meatballs – Canned whole tomatoes – Yellow onion – Garlic  – Extra-virgin olive oil – Red pepper flakes – Dried oregano – Kosher salt – Sugar – Parmesan cheese

Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add red pepper flakes, onion, and salt. Cook 3–4 minutes until onion is soft and translucent.

STEP 1: BUILD THE FLAVOR BASE

STEP 2: ADD GARLIC

Add the garlic to the pan and stir in the garlic and cook it for 1 minute until fragrant and slightly browned.

STEP 3: CRUSH TOMATOES

Add canned whole tomatoes. Gently crush with a potato masher or the bottom of a sturdy mug until mostly broken down.

STEP 4: SEASON THE SAUCE

Stir in tomatoes. Add salt, oregano, and a pinch of sugar. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

STEP 5: ADD MEATBALLS

Stir frozen meatballs into the sauce, coating them well. Simmer 25–35 minutes, until meatballs are fully heated through.

STEP 6: FINISH AND SERVE

Sprinkle parmesan over top. Serve warm with pasta, rice, or garlic bread for dipping in the sauce.
